Cornellians for Obama

It’s ironic that this thread was started by someone who hated Obama (ResurgamBell) and now people want to monopolize it as an Obama campaign center. Here’s the original post:

And to s.dot, god you sound so bitter. If you admitted, you were Michelle Obama, I wouldn’t be shocked.

And I beg you to provide 2-3 specific quotes that you consider to cross the line when we were discussing racial issues or Obama’s unique take on race. I assure you I will reconsider them and rescind them if necessary. Yet, you continue with the broad accusations and blabber on about my “intellectual racism.” It’s not racist to note that largely black areas are laregly crime-ridden areas. Apparently, this is a controversial statement and hides up some latent racism that I harbor. But if I did make a statement that wasn’t founded by evidence or in line with logic (i.e. Affirmative action is legalized fraud), then please provide it.

I assume you’ve avoided this proposition b/c those outrageous claims are not present in this thread.

@ bizzyjudy:
Even with your disclaimer at the bottom, I still can’t decide if you’re being sarcastic or not. Coming out in my defense in this thread seems to be commensurate with treason. Thus, I’m a alittle wary.

I hear you bizzyjudy, and I’ll heed the advice. I appreciate the pull-up.

Barack Obama wins the election! :D

Barack Obama is the president. Good luck to him because he will need it.

dontno - nope; no sarcasm. I’m just a naturally dry-humored person. I think you can tell through previous posts (or not). I did not necessarily come to support you but take my comments as you wish.

Just a sidenote: Obama won. I feel so numb. I am soooo elated. McCain is speaking his concession speech. What a day! McCain is a good sport at the end. I honestly believe that he is not as bad as some make him to be. But he had it coming! Lol. But Obama has a lot on his shoulders now.

s.dot - you’re welcome. You took it better than I thought! I expected you to start blasting off. lol. Just messing with you. :)

so yeah obama won…what worries me is that people think they’re safe now that bush will be gone…but it’s still left to be seen what obama will do…

resistance is victory…

I also read some of your posts, ResurgamBell. You presented yourself as an intellectual but then you slowly digress…

You’re right, though. Bush being gone doesn’t mean that America suddenly turns into a land of daisies and sunshine. Lol. Barack, or any person, would find it difficult to dig the grave that the last administration left.

It would help if the nation would support him or at least give him some leeway (you don’t have to throw yourself at every word he says) so that his transition into the White House would be easier and so that things get done more efficiently.

Resistance cannot translate into victory until you have understanding, clear mindedness, etc. Other than that, it’s just plain denial. Your initial feelings may wear off after a while. I know that I feel overwhelmed (in a happy sense, though) about the results of the presidential election.

Congratulations my fellow Cornellian-Obama supporters! We did it!!!

If ya’ll don’t know, you betta ask somebody! Whoo! Obama! America united as one! United we stand, together we fall!

he win’d. yahoo.

no no, it will turn into the land of sunshine and daisies. that’s what they showed on The Daily Show and so that’s what I choose to believe (it’s really quite a truthy approach). after all, when Jon Stewart was the person I heard the news from, and there’s no TV mouth I would’ve preferred.

“united we stand”? dude, almost half the country voted against him…haha i’m still happy

I think we can finally put this one to rest. Just so much to reflect on, so many emotions. I’m still trying to sort thing’s out. I truly believe America has come of age, and I hope those Blacks, who have for so long felt doubt and skepticism about the world, come to realize we can stop finger-pointing and making excuses and take control of our own destinies (that includes myself also, by the way). Phew! For the first time in my life, I can say that and not feel like I’m selling Black people out.

The next decade will eradicate much of the divisiveness in America. And, as much as this is a personal moment for Blacks, it is an even more wonderful moment for our country and all the Barack supporters. This would not have happened without the support of white, black, yellow, brown, and every true believer who went out and cast his/her ballot. Today, God bless America sounds a whole lot better than God damned America.

the amount of melanin in one skin’s is irrelevant…what matters is that you’re pro-gun, pro-America, pro-sovereignty…

yeah I agree with ResurgamBell - the policies are what matters, not the color of his skin. I couldn’t care less that he’s half-black, I voted for him for other reasons entirely.

I agree stargazer, I like Obama because he (at least promises) PROGRESS.
What America has seen for so many years is RETROGRESSION.
We’re not moving forward, and we’re not bettering ourselves.
We’ve been deteriorating under a Christian regime, and Obama will give us the audacity to hope.

I’m aware that that was really corny, my apologies.
:P

s.dot said:

So this is basically what Ive been saying throughout this thread and you label me a racist!?!??!

I’m going to try to make this my last post, cause I’ve said what I said, stood by it, and basically watched much of it come to pass:

dontno, you are not black and you are far from a mouthpiece for any black person in America. Therefore, what view point do you come from outside of the bigoted white person’s view point? You are not the determiner of what black people’s problems or issues are. That means that high-minded commentary about black people coming from the likes of you isn’t acceptable, period. Opinions and statements about an ethnic group that are true, have some truth, or are debatable – but spoken without a hateful, controversial agenda are always open for some healthy “discourse” as you call it. But coming from a Skip Bayless, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly type will never work, and black people aren’t gonna respond the way you think. Start pointing fingers at whatever race you are instead of being a nemesis to blacks, cause today, people who think like you are licking their wounds.

By the way, I speak from the inside out, and the outside in. I’m a black male from a lower-middle class background, lived among blacks all my life, gone to school with, currently go to school with, and am close friends with people of many different ethnic backgrounds, tutored and written newsletters for my community to address issues and concerns, and experienced life as a black male for long enough to speak from an objective and subjective view point about race. So thank you, no for your opinion and your assessment of blacks when it’s spoken from that blighted, bigoted viewpoint. When black people become your problem in this world, other than the fact that you don’t like what you see in them, then maybe your opinion will be considered on the subject.

ResurgemBell, it’s a bit foolish to suggest that, although this is a monumental moment in American history, that blacks aren’t feeling this in a different, special and unique way. Nobody’s being selfish with Barack, but please, there is a part of this that affects blacks exclusively. I don’t know what color your skin is, but arguing that Barack being black doesn’t matter tells me exactly what color your skin is not.

I don’t think he was saying being black doesn’t matter, because it does a helluva lot in this day and age…it’s just that when it comes down to it, you should be voting for the candidate who best represents your political beliefs. And yeah, I understand that for black Americans across the country, it is different…but i’m a brown girl myself and I felt pretty proud watching my candidate last night :)
