Cornellians for Obama

bushed promised a humble foreign policy…and we all know what we got…

i never even heard obama say that…he might have said he’d bring the troops home but who says he wont send them elsewhere on “humanitarian” missions under the auspices of the UN?

As a Canadian, I am quite concerned what Obama will do to “steal” the Arctic region from Canada.

@ s.dot:

Finally, a reasoned response devoid of baseless accusations of racism. I understand what you’re saying, but it’s short-sighted. Some issues relating to the African-American experience require the unique perspective of a black person, i.e. discrimination. Yet, many issues do not, such as absentee fathers, repudiation of educational values, etc. These are ideas accessible to anyone.

And if you don’t like a non-black person giving his honest assessment of black America, then you (using that term generally) should also refuse food stamps, free government housing, Head Start programs, Boys and Girls Clubs, and any and everything enacted by Bill Clinton. Because all these programs were initiated by the evil “white man” who sees the same self-destructive atmosphere that Bill Cosby noted.

And of course, I still love how you pontificate on the issue of my motivation.

Finally, I must admit Obama’s speech yesterday was enthralling and fantastic. Wya better than his ovverrated “race” speech where he threw his grandmother under the bus.

dontno, this is what makes you such an idiot…

You so gleefully come up with your upstanding white perspective on black people. The reality behind appearances is something you need to consider. Until you do some homework and learn to expound on the issues of absentee fathers, repudiation of educational values and the like, your opinion is simply the outdated opinion that just lost the election. You are insensitive and rash. If you feel that way about black people, my natural response is, WHY DON’T YOU WORRY ABOUT YOUR OWN PEOPLE!!! WHAT PROBLEMS HAVE BLACK PEOPLE CAUSED FOR YOU???

Oh, I get it. A black man just won the election. Also, your daughter couldn’t get into Cornell (ha ha) cause some unqualified black took her spot. And your sister didn’t get the job she wanted cause some unqualified black got the position. And that government money spent on head start programs for blacks is a waste, it could’ve gone to another damned war somewhere!! Alas, you’ve dedicated your time and efforts tutoring black kids with absentee fathers and providing them with those things their absentee fathers should provide. Not to mention your girlfriend’s curiosity led her to a roll in the hay with some black guy, and she’s not coming back…

The only thing you know about blacks is what you see on TV and read in newspapers. Bill Cosby, myself, and plenty other BLACK PEOPLE can speak truthfully about the high’s and lows, inadequacies and strengths, issues, concerns, and possible plans of action for black people cause when we recall our experiences and look in the mirror, we fit the criteria and you don’t dontno, simple as that.

Why don’t you use your aggression to fights aids or cure cancer? On second thought, why don’t you just save everyone and run for office yourself. But leave black people alone, cause it’s obvious you’ve got a stick up your a** and you are just sooo annoying. I’m not going to sit here and explain to you like you’re some 7 year old about the dynamics that affect the black community and the black family, cause frankly dontno, I don’t have to. If I’m Michelle Obama (which made no sense at all) then you’re Marge Schott (sleeping with the fishes, might I add). Do some freakin homework and study the situation instead of being so damed racist. If you don’t know something, ask someone close to you instead of coming up with your great white assessment of black people, because we’ve heard it all before. And you had the nerve to call me short-sighted???

And really dontno, nobody cares what your opinion of Obama is. So you liked one speech he made, but you didn’t like another speech, SO WHAT??? You’re going to be watching Obama like a hawk, waiting for him to misspell a word or spill his milk, but remember, you’ll in all likelihood have 8 years of watching to do. Every race has undesirables, stop representing your race in that way.

PS - I promise, if I respond to one more of your asinine comments, I’ll consider myself the same type of idiot i consider you to be and I deserve all the aggravation you aim to cause. You’re just mad that you and all those who think like you have largely been exposed. The world is changing, and apparently, leaving you behind.

Can we like not make this a race topic? I’m surprised that tokenadult did not already rear his nosy head into this conversation, close this thread, and suggest you all go here:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/568159-race-college-admissions-faq-discussion-2-a.html</a> <–It may not talk about race exclusively but it talks about it in context of college admissions.

s.dot - do not make this into a black vs. white thing (whatever happened to unity, colorblindness, etc?). dontno is an individual that should NOT represent ALL whites. We all know what generalizations can do…And besides, you use a lot of reverse-racist remarks that make you sound full of it and bigoted even though I know that that is not your intention. Your comments to dontno are counterproductive. Just take your anger somewhere else, please. It’s pretty hurtful.

dontno - if you’re so righteous, the best thing to do is ignore s.dot. Yes, you come off as arrogant but I believe that you are capable of beating this conversation by saying nothing. s.dot seems to be clouded by anger and emotion. Reason cannot see through the mist.

I suggest that both of you come back to this thread in like a month’s time. I bet that you both will have a very good laugh because your bickering is very annoying and leaning off the topic.

Oh, geesh! Make up already.

And please, heed CC’s rules and regulations:

i liked the following professors’ views:

Both dontno and s.dot seem to feel very comfortable in this thread, bizzyjudy. Now, if they unnerve you, I suggest you don’t click on the link to it. S.dot is free to question dontno opinion and dontno is more than free to defend it. This is America, we have free speech and an open forum on the internet is the last place anyone should try to hinder that right.

I apologize if I confused you, TrackBabi17. What I meant with my previous post was for dontno and s.dot to keep the arguments on a civil level and as relevant to the topic as possible. I’m mostly concerned about the name calling which is against the CC TOS. They may be or may not be comfortable with this conversation but CC isn’t.

I don’t think the argument has reached an uncivil level…they’re both defensive but trying to make a point. If CC had a huge problem with it, mods would have the posts deleted or whatever. As for keeping the topic, this thread is 40 pages long (!) and the original topic was answered about 39 pages back…

Sighs Okay, I’ll just let the two dog it out.

I was only trying to prevent serious unrest. If you all are fine, I won’t intercede anymore.

This thread has been in existence since July…if any of us (or the mods) had a serious problem…it would been shut down a while ago.

I believe s.dot and dontno have made their points…now we should let this thread die (again!)

This isn’t even about Cornellians for Obama anymore… it’s just a place where people vent their frustrations.

Save it for December 15th, por favor.

it was never about cornellians for obama, it was someone who wondered if wearing an anti-Obama shirt would get angry looks/comments around comments.

OP - it’s the U.S.A, wear what you like, he’s still the prez and it ain’t gonna change that!
even if this thread dies now, it’ll get revived as soon as obama makes one mistake…

bye

@ s.dot:

Wow, we agree. But, you forgot the high rate of black crime. And I really don’t care that a black man won the presidency. I care that a black man who has spent his entire life trying to authenticate himself as a “black” man won the presidency.

The things you raise above aren’t ust on TV and in the newspaper. They’re backed by undeniable numbers and statistics. Or are numbers racist now, like the SATs?

And finally just to prove my point regarding your indiscriminate accusations of racism, I give you this wonderful quote from you:

Yes John McCain, that racist bast ard!! Adopting and raising an abandoned orphan infant from Indian! God he must hate anyone who isn’t white.

Oh asnd one more thing: Apparently not everyone is so excited about the Obama presidency. It seems the core oBama voters, blacks and white young liberals, don’t have much money in the stock market. It promptly plummeted 10% over the past two days. So much for that Warren Buffet endorsement.

wow i didnt even remember creating this thread…

i’m only glad that the internet provides a forum for discussions of these issues…we already know that this topic wouldnt be touched (at least not for months) in real life :D

Wearing anything critical of Obama will get you “flack” (after all this is where some of the most liberal people, college students and all, live - (intelligence is not relevant to political choice))

After Obama won, people went into the libraries banging pots and pans, (No…like…there was a guy with pots and pans…), and everywhere else with a general mood of euphoria.

Now, don’t get me wrong, there are more than a few conservatives (social, fiscal {lulz}, classical, etc) on campus. They were generally pretty quiet and, for the most part, sober post election day.

^^The scene in Philly after Obama won was unbelievable, so much joy and exuberance – thousands of people storming the streets, no hate, no fear, and all ethnicities and cultures rejoicing over what they see as a new world being ushered in. The students (myself included) take so much responsibility for the election results. I’m willing to bet there weren’t many campuses around the country more politically active than Penn over the past two years, and it showed, with Obama surprisingly taking PA. I was fortunate enough to canvas for Barack in N.Y. and New Jersey over the summer, and I donated some of the few dollars I earned towards his cause.

With the Phillies winning the World Series and with Barack winning the presidency, the city of Philadelphia has experienced two once in a lifetime scenarios in little more than one week. I would say Philadelphia is one of the best places in the country to be right now, particularly for college kids and young professionals. This assessment is based on my two-plus years here.

I also find it very telling the reaction from people around the world. Never before has the U.S. been under the microscope from so many other countries than during this election. Although America still has a way to go in race relations (as shown by the popular vote), this is the first true indicator that America is moving away from its racist past. The healing has finally begun. Now we all have the responsibility of keeping those who seek to reopen old wounds and keep trouble and controversy brewing in check. We cannot allow them to regain power.

The implication of this statement is astounding. So anyone who didn’t vote for Obama is a racist?!?!?! Hell, 4% of blacks didn’t vote for him. If Obama was a conservative liberatarian, I would’ve voted for him.

Yeah, I’m agreeing with dontno. This is kind of a ridiculous thing to say. I would have voted for Obama if I was 18, but it’s not because he is black.
I don’t think most of the people who didn’t vote for him didn’t because of his race - they didn’t vote for him because of his position on the issues. Sure, there are probably some people who didn’t vote for him because they couldn’t “get over” his race, but that population is much smaller than the rest of the people who didn’t vote for him.
