Speaking of China,
China Spins Coronavirus Crisis, Hailing Itself as a Global Leader

Interesting discussion overheard at a nearby lunch table today - small restaurant near a medium sized city. While the virus is bad for some (many? but discussion said some) people on the planet, itās good for the planet. Disrupting the economic system is helping the planet with less smog and less materials being turned into products, etc.
The table had what looked like twenty somethings at it, both genders. Perhaps college age. Perhaps a little older.
Makes me wonder a little if this is how itās being viewed by that age group or if itās just a small segment. Iām not on FB. Anyone else hearing anything remotely similar?
Sure, I think that people who arenāt at risk for dying and who havenāt considered how many of their loved ones might die could view the coronavirus as a positive disruption.
Twenty somethings in good health have little to worry about if the pattern holds up.
@thumper1 I would think it should help if you know how to breathe through it. Thatās what medical p[rofessionals are planning to wear. If you turn your air on, it should also help by blowing particulates away.
I am not talking about now. I am talking about a really big possibility that the virus has been here in our state as early as late December- early January. I know several folks who had relatives visiting them from China over the holiday break⦠Ditto San Francisco. Lots of connections to China.
Iād carry one (or two) just in cases like this.
Itās just a ātakeā on the whole issue I havenāt seen yet. My curiosity is how widespread it is. Iāve seen mostly folks who are unconcerned (this too shall pass) and some who are quite anxious (weāre all going to die/apocalypse is coming or our retirement is shot like 2008). No doubt thereās the positive āgreenā aspect when one thinks about it, but I hadnāt seen a group approach it that way until today.
Iāve been saying this myself and have had conversations with family and friends. I said it on here 3 days ago. Maybe morbid, but true. We havenāt had anything that has decimated the world population for a long time and our population has grown by crazy numbers - 260% from the time I was born - 3.1 million to 8 million. Humanity may falter, the planet will keep going. Maybe Mother Natureās way of correcting the course.

Possible. There were rumors going around in Wuhan already in November, an female interviewee told a reporter.
Oh, boy, two of the current corona patients are associated with a local senior care facility. Lots of people there being tested. https://www.kiro7.com/news/local/report-dozens-kirkland-nursing-facility-reporting-symptoms-that-might-suggest-coronavirus/2YXV65ZP6VBSZDVX53SUWXLYYU/
For those who would like to know more about whatās going on with the virus in Washington State:
There are plenty of people in the middle, like I am and like most of the people on this thread. They realize the sky isnāt falling, no need to panic, but that this is a potentially high morbidity event that is worth keeping an eye on. As information becomes available, itās worthwhile to understand what works, what is happening, who is at risk so that reasonable changes can be implemented to avoid killing grandma or our friend who is undergoing chemo for cancer treatment.
As for the idea that thereās a positive aspect, that is true for every single horrific event out there. But most people understand itās either uncaring or outright rude to voice enthusiasm over that since there are likely to be victims of said event all around and ignoring the victims is callous. After all, the water in front of my dock is getting a bit too shallow for many types of sailboats but it would be fairly rude to go around talking about how great it will be when global warming causes sea levels to rise a couple of feet so that Iāll have a nice deepwater dock that will accommodate any size yacht, right? That sounds about as appropriate and sensitive as a group of people who arenāt at risk for dying from the coronavirus talking about how positive it is that thousands of deaths mean quarantines, loss of jobs and less production of goods.
Iāve heard a lot of people talk about the positive aspects of Global Warmingā¦
Well, there are some discussions you have behind closed doors. I wouldnāt necessarily discuss it in a public place. Letās call them matter-of-fact but that is about the only silver lining I can think of for this virus situation.
I do worry about deaths and I do worry about those most living on the margin. And many people out of work. Think about all the people whose lives rely on the tourism trade who wonāt be making anything.
Thank you for answering my question about putting on a maskā¦after someone coughs a lot next to you.
Yes, Iāve heard a lot of what I consider to be gross or worrisome comments to varying degrees. Mostly about it only affecting those who are older or already ill (ah, ok? too bad for them I guess?), but even as much as comments like āculling the herdā or hopefulness that the homeless population would be thinned out. Yikes. Heartless!
Iāll freely admit to having had to skip multiple pages due to being mostly offline in the past few days due to travel and visiting or doing things.
During that time it was brought up that the world population will be rising to 10 billion in our kidsā (likely) lifetime and wondering how the planet will literally feed that many (BBC article/study was at the center of this I believe). No one in our discussion related it to this virus, but I imagine if thatās well known among the age group then they might be linking things - for a reason important to them.
Well, this is a direct quote from todayās press conference:
āHealthy people ā if youāre healthy ā you will probably go through a process and youāll be fine.ā
Well it would be better for the planet if young people without children died, if we are going to look at it that way. So.
**Editing to specify that Iām not hoping for that!
