Id like to say, nothing ever surprises me, but this does shock me. A presser with 6 top government officials got the sex of the deceased patient wrong. Did he get handed the wrong info?
I used to wear an n95 for hours while woodworking. The n99 is a bit more difficult to breathe through, but in this particular scenario youâre sitting inactive on a plane, not physically moving around doing dishes and the like.
I strongly disagree. Have you experience working with local/State/federal health departments? (I have experience in all three, and things just arenât that simple particularly in todayâs politicized world. See Governor Insleeâs blow off of Mike Pence yesterday.)
My takeaway from the Seattle press conference is that a lot more cases are going to be identified. They essentially said as much - that these first cases were identified because the protocol from CDC had just changed and they were able to test severe symptom patients who hadnât fit the travel criteria. I believe they said they had 200 tests being run (not sure if I caught that correctly) and that they were gearing up for more. They also said that to have found this severity of virus in the couple of otherwise already ill patients means that the virus is most likely already out in the community in a probable mild form.
It sounds like the city, county, and state are gearing up rapidly to deal with a widespread outbreak - obviously the situation is changing quickly but they seem to know what theyâre doing and might need to do. At least, thatâs what I told son - we both listened to the conference and talked before and after.
They also discussed the difference between presumptive cases (tested locally) and official CDC tested cases. The first numbers are going to come in sooner than the latter.
Hmmm. I think a skills care facility is as bad or worse than being confined on a cruise ship. These residents probably all are older, and have compromised health in some way.
If this spreads to the health care workers there, who will take care of everyone.
It seems that the state of Washington will respond to this issueâŠand quickly. But it is very concerning for this population.

Sad for the victimâs family. Not confidence inducing in the rest of us.
Just read that the temperature of the water does not matter when washing hands but use soap and scrub for at least 20 seconds.
Thatâs right. You are not trying to kill the germs when you wash your hands, you are using soap to lower the surface tension on your hands so that dirt and other yucky stuff âslides offâ.
In general, if we needed to use water hot enough to kill the germs, weâd be scalding ourselves (or worse).
I have to wonder. I recovered from a cold (or mild flu) about six weeks ago that had a lingering cough, as did my husband. We still have the cough. My doctor said there was something going around in Seattle that sounded like what we had. It makes me wonder if the coronavirus has already been in the area for months. We have heavy travel from China in the Seattle area.
I was really knocked on my rear about five or six weeks ago with a really bad âcold.â The cough lingered forever. Those same symptoms might get me more attention today than I would like. I didnât have a fever, though.

Med records and Death certificate - make a copy the old school way or electronically and done. Again, not too hard to get right.
Iâm really surprised you are excusing all this. And are you okay with the gender getting mixed up as well?
I actually have worked with local and state governments. I have also worked in a very exacting industry where accuracy and timeliness are highly valued and encouraged - and extremely large sums of money were at stake. But this is about lives at stake and that makes it even more important to work quickly and with accuracy. If the wrong people are doing it, move them out and get the right people in the seats. This isnât a dress rehearsal. This shouldnât be regulated to a casual MWF timeframe.
One thing I recommend in general is to join any type of neighborhood group available to you, such as NextDoor or Front Porch. Get to know your neighbors so you can depend on each other in an emergency of any sort.

I hope people will be neighborly not torches and pitchforks.

I would hope so too. My experience with NextDoor has been positive. In my group reason seems to win out, as when a few people posted alarmist posts about coyotes in the area. Those with more information posted links to reliable information on coyote habits and calmed people down.
The group has been used to give information on things like emergency alerts, power outages and traffic information as well as the more normal babysitting offers and requests for reliable plumbers and landscapers.

More than 50 people linked to skilled nursing facility in Washington to be tested for coronavirus
âapproximately 108 residents at the facility and about 180 staff. And among the residents, weâve had reports that approximately 27 have some sort of symptoms and among the staff, approximately 25. Weâre going to be working in collaboration with a CDC team, which will be arriving tonight, to assess each and every one of these people and provide the appropriate guidance around isolatingâŠat this point the investigation is just getting started.â So far, there are two casesâŠlinked to the skilled nursing facility⊠One case is in a health care worker, a woman in her 40s who is hospitalized in satisfactory condition. She had no relevant history of travel. The other case is a woman in her 70s who was a resident of the center. She is in serious condition in another hospital. " (CNN)
We canât find hand sanitizer anywhere. Iâm so annoyed.

Washington governor issues state of emergency in response to coronavirus cases
âThe proclamation directs state agencies and departments to utilize state resources and do everything necessary to assist affected communities responding to and recovering from coronavirus, according to the emergency order.â (CNN)
Has it been established whether people who have recovered from the virus have immunity to it?
