Coronavirus in the US

Online? Maybe places people are less likely to look - restaurant supply warehouse, janitorial supply place, etc.?

@doschicos that’s where I’m looking now. Even a lot of those seem sold out.

No. There is a report that someone who recovered from the virus got infected again. They think it could be a result of a faulty test. They are checking.

China’s pollution disappeared during the epidemic. Incredible improvement.

I got my three small Purell knockoffs at Aldi. Right near the register.

Nothing at Home Depot or Lowe’s.

Guess I’ll check Walmart tomorrow.

@doschicos Here’s a write up on the testing issues.

Our Nextdoor has turned into a place for lunatics, malcontents, and a place for people to be nasty…well before coronavirus made an appearance. It’s completely unusable and makes me sad.

Oh, and wait for it…I’m in a highly educated affluent area…really, people should know better. Nextdoor was good for the first couple years, but then really changed over the last few years. I won’t speculate as to why.

We bought the small bottles of hand sanitizer…but my husband is right…we have soap and water at home. Where do I think we are going to use them?

bath and body works has hand sanitizer. Small bottles but easy to put in purses and such.

I found one at a bulk place. 12 bottles lol. Oh well

I was surprised there was a statement to the effect that one would get immunity at the press conference this afternoon because I’ve read several things from experts saying there is no surety to that.

@Qtinfo Thank you so much for posting these two articles. They are excellent and informative. I hope everyone here reads both of them.

Oh, shoot. I just checked in to fly domestically but it looks like it is an International flight. @thumper1, can I borrow one of your N95?

BRAZIL - Brazil announces second case, had been in Italy and traveled from Milan to Sao Paulo on Feb. 27.

SPAIN - 25 new cases today for a total of 58.

NORWAY - 9 new cases for a total of 15.

LUXEMBOURG - 1st case confirmed, connected to Italy travel.

I think she’s saving them for medical personnel.

I love the scented small hand sanitizers at Bath and Body Works. I keep them in the car, in my purse, in my tennis bag and in my pocket if I’m hiking.

Not excusing anything, just trying to state the obvious: rushing to the podium leads to mistakes. (Doh!)

Moreover, I just don’t see the sense of urgency that some others do. Does it really matter if the Gov or Health Care official gives a presser at 2 pm or 5 pm or 9 pm? What’s the rush? To me, I’d rather it be the latter and be 100% correct. OTOH, if there is a need for rush, then make the presser as generic as possible: ā€˜we had an elderly person die today from COVID-19. We’ll be releasing further details later after family is notified.’

Our hood had one of the first cases of COVID a couple of weeks ago and it was mostly a non-event. I never saw folks wearing masks; people at parks are still using the water fountains…I expect if cases arise in our town tomorrow, 99% of the folks will still go on with the normal daily activities.

So, if I’m correct in my assertion, daily data updates are just not necessary for the public. Sure, a nice-to-have, but until Congress sees fit to meet and cough up some more money, IMO ~95% of all CDC resources should be spent working on vaccines and treatments. The MWF fed reporting schedule is fine for me. If states want to have a higher frequency reporting schedule, have at it.

As I am and many of our loved ones are at risk for varying reasons, we are trying to be careful without being obsessive. We did buy a Costco pack of toilet paper, as we were out.

We have a relative in his last year of Med school returning from a month rotation in Japan on Sunday. He was just instructed by our Med school to report to his rotation in geriatrics on Monday. NO quarantine, as he did not have any direct contact with any known Covid-19 patient & no symptoms. He thought he’d be told to self isolate but nope just follow orders and report to geriatric rotation (vulnerable population).

I’ve looked up hand sanitizer online, and used the ā€œfind at a storeā€ function to see where it is. Planning on picking some up tomorrow morning. I hope it’s still there, lol.

PS - if it says 1 left, or 2-5 left, there’s likely none left.

Northern California county reports fourth case of coronavirus

A fourth case of novel coronavirus was reported in Santa Clara County, California, according to the county’s Public Health Department.

The case involves an adult woman who was in contact with another coronavirus patient in the county, the department said in statement on Saturday. She is not ill or hospitalized and is isolated at home, the statement said.

Some background: The first case of coronavirus in Santa Clara County was reported on January 31. The patient was released from isolation on February 20, the statement said.

Back to the ā€˜twentysomethings discussing possible benefits’…I’m not seeing any environmental benefits here… People are going out and buying extra stuff. Just my last trip to Costco, everyone was coming out with all of these single use bottles of water. If people turn even more to online shopping, that’s more transport and packaging of all that stuff. Ordering hand sanitizer, wipes and masks? Great, that could come to you in three separate boxes from three locations on three trucks.
