It’s retrospective, so they were only looking at hospitalized patients and trying to identify risk factors within that population.
Copy and paste the link in the browser. Just to make sure: This is a study of admitted patients who have left the hospital one way or the other (died or discharged). This is not representative of all covid cases. Most striking is the difference in age between discharged and deceased (p value).
I find this conclusion a little alarming “The potential risk factors of older age, high SOFA score, and d-dimer greater than 1 μg/L could help clinicians to identify patients with poor prognosis at an early stage.”
I could see in an extreme situation some patients could be deemed too sick to treat given limited resources.

Some members of Congress not comfortable gathering for virus briefings, source says

Some lawmakers are not comfortable with gathering for all-House member coronavirus briefings given the virus’ ability to spread, according to a source familiar with the situation.
Some members feel the move is in direct conflict with the advice health officials have been giving to avoid large gatherings, the source said.
Several members were already exposed to the virus at the Conservative Political Action Conference.
One of those members, Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas, has not been self-quarantining despite being told by officials that he had been in proximity to the individual at CPAC who was diagnosed with novel coronavirus. Gohmert was on the Hill today.
One question being raised is whether the briefings can be done via video conference.
If resources get burdened, they’ll definitely be triage.
Blame Europe and then punish them. Italy banned Chinese flights the same time as us. Unreal. Banning imports too.

El Salvador imposes 21 days of quarantine and prohibits entry of all foreigners

El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele announced a nationwide 21-day mandatory quarantine in a televised address to the nation late Wednesday.
Bukele explained all school activities at all levels are now suspended and any gatherings of more than 500 people will be prohibited.
The 21 days of quarantine will not impact trade and “all people should continue to go to work as usual,” Bukele said.
All diplomats, Guatemalans with valid passports and Salvadoran residents will be allowed into the country as long as they undergo the mandatory 30 days of isolation, according to the president.
Currently, El Salvador does not have any confirmed cases of novel coronavirus.

Trump will suspend all US travel to and from Europe for next 30 days
President Trump announced tonight that all travel from Europe to the United States will be suspended for the next 30 days, except for the UK.
Trump made the decision in order to “keep new cases from entering our shores.”
“We will be suspending all travel from Europe to the United States for the next 30 days. The new rules will go into effect Friday at midnight. These restrictions will are be adjusted subject to conditions on the ground,” the President said from the Oval Office.
Trump said there will be certain exemptions made for certain Americans “who have undergone appropriate screenings.”
“These prohibitions will not only apply to the tremendous amount of trade and cargo, but various other things as we get approval. Anything coming from Europe to the United States is what we are discussing. These restrictions will also not apply to the United Kingdom,” Trump added. (CNN)

I was watching and had a momentary freak out because my husband is in London. When I heard “all travel from Europe for 30 days” I gasped until I heard “starting Friday” and then could breathe again (he flies home tomorrow). I tuned out and didn’t hear him say except UK, so a brief scare for me.

Holy moly! My DD is scheduled to fly home tomorrow from Germany. She’s been on her honeymoon. Match week starts Monday. I’m having heart palpitations!
Wow! My son is in school in Germany and was scheduled to fly home to MD in early April to spend the holidays with us and with his wife who is currently in the California. Will he be unable to fly home? Would he need to be quarantined if he does? What have they said about US citizens?
Insane and useless. We have community spread here. This is just punitive to blame others. Trade???
I’d count on a quarantine. Sounds like certain Americans will be allowed if they meet certain tests.
Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson test positive for coronavirus in Australia
Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson have coronavirus. He wrote in a post on Instagram:
“Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive.”
Both are in a Gold Coast hospital with coronavirus, the actor has said.
