Quick geography lesson…DC is not part of Virginia.
Could we please move on from this political discussion which has nothing whatsoever to do with the coronavirus and is turning into a political debate?

@emilybee. My sister lives down there and knows I love golf. I was telling her about the course being closed to mass residents locally. She said to bad youre not the former president. Etc.
It’s just an observation. Believe it or not. But it’s fairly poor judgement if true. Not sure why it would be much more than that as a brief observation in a post.
@“Cardinal Fang” The picture in Politico and Washington examiner are from his course in Chevy Chase. And everyone here is talking about people following the rules and public health requirements for the regular people and I asked a simple question about someone of privilege getting a pass.
If it turns out to be false that’s ok by me. I didn’t read any denial by their press office.
Calling politico a liberal source is pretty hilarious since its about as centrist as you can get. But it’s a good sign to me to move on and away from that back and forth
I forgot the whole reason I came on this thread - my dentist has begun scheduling again. I have Sjogrens so I go to the dentist every 3 months. I haven’t been since like December and they’re scheduling in June. As much as going to the dentist is super important to me, I don’t want them to reopen without hospitals being set with PPE in our area. ERs and emergency dental procedures are much more important than my routine cleaning.
You’re mixing up cause & effect. I’d say, it’s the corona virus that is the club, not lockdowns.
And not all local businesses are dying. My local bike shop has a 3-week waiting list for bike tuning, and it just hired 2 more techs. My local bookstore – though closed – is doing great through bookshop, the online shopping site for independent booksellers. And I just talked to a guy who runs a vegetable and fruit farm where high-end restaurants get their produce. He’s now sending his supplies to individual customers… and is having a hard time keeping up with the demand.

Here is photo from Politico ( Liberal ) playbook . which of course has now been removed or impossible to find.
Not sure why this is so surprising? Most political elites are hypocrites.

Do you know what course that is? And how do you know who the people are in that picture?
Where is the close up?
And the picture in the CSN article was completely different and Obama was in shorts that one.
@emilybee Let’s agree to let it ride. It was just an observation. If he did it was lame is all.
I’d doubt the examiner would print it about the former president without someone pushing back if it were demonstrably false. But who knows these days.
Back to our regularly scheduled discussion…
I really do think some seniors are making a rational decision regarding their last days. My dad did. By age 88, he happily ate, drank, and did, whatever he wanted, content that his life was well lived and could end at anytime with peace. His choice. There is a lot to be said for that approach. Additional agonizing months in a nursing home are not always wanted.
As I said, there’s: ‘money’, such as one might have in the bank to use when needed, and there’s ‘debt’, what you eventually have to pay back. Paying it back is problematic, if tax receipts have gone to crap because no-ones working.
I’m generally a Pollyana about a lot things… it’ll work out, things will look better in the morning, etc…, but I can’t get in that mood for what this is looking to turn out to be if the lockdowns aren’t eased enough for people to go back to work. If anyone is thinking that waving a magic wand over the economy, even if normal happened tomorrow, is going to set things back to rights, I believe they’re mistaken. Possibly even deluded.
This is very hard for some seniors in CCRTs. They don’t have regular scheduled activities, or meals in a common place. They are pretty isolated. Some are unable to use telephones or computers because of dementia. Most of these places are not allowing visitors.
The staff is trying to help…with things like FaceTime with family members…but let’s face it. That’s not the same as holding someone’s hand or giving them a hug.
Our skilled care places have been particularly hard hit with this virus…and the populations is a vulnerable one. And sadly, many are dying without seeing their loved ones.
It’s a horrible situation for this population.
Fine by me @Private Banker. - but people need to check and double check sources especially for things like this when there is no proof at all.
If Obama’s staff had to respond to everything false about him in print or broadcast news they wouldn’t have time for anything else.
Sure, are you telling the defenders and Trump bashers the same thing in this forum…
Sure am.
Everyone should keep their politics off this thread…please.

My FIL, age 87 with a couple of co-morbidities, still goes out with his partner every morning for coffee and most days for carryout lunch or dinner. He says he understands the risks and it’s his Quality of Life. Refuses to shelter in his NoVa condo.
Aside from the golf issue, you really cant believe everything that is said, posted, reported and linked here is checked and double checked.
That doesn’t even happen for professionals.
And there’s plenty haymakers that get described here that aren’t asked for deep sourcing besides public media.
But It’s ok. It’s just a parents forum.
Glad the new rules allow moderators to just delete the purely political stuff and looking forward to seeing it happen.
The problem with understanding the risks and making QOL decisions related to covid is that it’s not just your life you’re endangering.
We finally got my 90 year old grandmother to stay home and not visit her friends when she found out that I couldn’t see my son in the NICU because of covid restrictions. I held him for about an hour before he was taken away for several days and only my H could see him. I’m not sure why but that was what really drove home for her that her decisions about her life aren’t JUST about her life.
I’m generally a live and let live person until your choices infringe on the right of others to live.
(Moving on now.)
I suggest if one’s buttons are pushed, that the best thing to do is put the poster doing the pushing on ignore. And then please not respond – it isn’t just the initial post, it is the back and forth.
It’s all I can do to sit on my hands so I can’t “flag” all the posts here that are inappropriate and become “that” person.
I always check, double check and sometimes more - before posting to make sure I am posting correct information.
And I always check, double check and sometimes more - statements put out as facts - especially when not a single source is cited at all. I read several papers a day so I have a pretty good idea if something isn’t kosher.
It’s all I can do to sit on my hands so I can’t “flag” all the posts here that are inappropriate and become “that” person.
I read. I ignore.
Well, I might also make some personal judgments about posters too, but that’s a human response.
If I wanted to get into a war about politics (or religion or whatever) I’d have a FB account. I don’t. I learn what I need to regarding friends or family from H via his account. He sifts through the “other” garbage for me. I control our budget. I’ve been known to totally quit donating to certain groups based upon posts I’ve seen from some of their leaders. I shift the donations to causes those leaders spouted off about. It’s my own personal satisfaction - no counter “post” required.
@emilybee ?. I respect your approach.
