Yes. Yes that is what it is like here now.
To answer what we are personally observing today… sunset over the big lake.
Some teens were swimming in the lake brrrrrr…
Goodwill of Southcentral Wisconsin will be accepting “contactless” donations starting tomorrow.
Next Thursday is the first delivery day for my CSA. It has been many years since I have bought a seasonal share. (I think that I did not renew the shares in the past because of family financial difficulties, specifically, my then-husband losing his job.) This is a big expense for me; the weekly cost is more than I typically spend on all food per week. But I want to support a Wisconsin farm, and I’ll feel okay about the cost even if the farm ends up having a bad year.
So funny to hear different things.
Our Goodwill stores are not open, but they are accepting donations.
Along the lines of those in the eye of the camera who seemingly have amazing hair without - of course - having violated the distancing/no hair service rules - are those in the camera eye who still do not have a moving facial muscle.
They must be able to inject their own botox. I am truly impressed.
My department is doing meetings by videoconference, and I hate seeing my own face so much that while I consent to have my camera on, I then open a different screen so I don’t have to see myself. So I have no idea how my face or hair looks.
If I had a crazy governor who would open up my state, it doesn’t mean I (or my family/friends) would necessary follow the order. I am a fairly intelligent person, therefore I know there are some idiots out there, so I wouldn’t think everyone would adhere to to best practices when it comes to social distancing. Until the data tells me we have the virus under control and there are cures/vaccine for this virus, I wouldn’t risk my life or my family’s well being by going out.
I’m grateful our state had only 1 new case out of our 1.4 million people and we are being careful about how we open up to keep our numbers low. We have a LOT of elderly in our state, many with comorbidities.
We are still trying to figure out as a state how to allow tourism SAFELY, which is something other fairly safe areas are also grappling with (eg New Zealand and some of Asia). We also have to feed and provide for the many, many unemployed in our state.
In my little part of the world the insanity continues as everyone, and I mean everyone, is coming to my neighborhood to watch our algae bloom phenomenon. It dissipated yesterday but back heavy today. The City Council sent a rep last night to see if our citizen complaints were valid. Well, they got convinced real quick!! They posted a Police Bulletin on Next Door this afternoon that all street parking along the cliff will be closed and stating “Please enjoy all 70 miles of our coastline”.
Well, of course no one from outside our neighborhood saw that and they are just parking up the side streets. I took a walk with mask on because I wanted to see the waves. They were bright green fantastic but it is shoulder to shoulder out there with many people sitting on top of their cars blaring their chosen music. This is 10pm. And there is one lone police car going up and down the street with bullhorn “Keep Moving, no standing still”. That’s the only thing they can do because the City Order is you can walk and exercise in the beaches and parks, but no sitting or lying down.
I’m convinced we are the only place in California that is experiencing Woodstock in our front yard right now☹️
We may have to go to some kind of curfew. This doesn’t have anything to do with opening up businesses, it’s just way too much congregating.
Well as expected, cases are now popping up all over western and more rural Michigan. So far, my area has had something like 80%+ of the state’s cases. Now cases are rising sharply in more rural counties.
It’s unfortunate because they’re just not prepared, like many rural places, but at the same time it’s very frustrating because this is why our governor put in the orders she did. Too many people chose to ignore it and this is the result
People here don’t seem to practice social distancing while on neighborhood walks and aren’t wearing masks while outside. So, the only outside air we get is hanging out in our backyard. The weather has been beautiful and I want to take kiddo for a walk but not with these neighbors
I just saw the picture posted above of the protestors at Huntington Beach, CA. Holy Moly, OK that beats my neighborhood for ‘congregating’
Where is @Iglooo ?
@coralbrook - did you see the photo of the protestors in downtown SD today? They probably left the protest and went straight to the cliffs to drink and party.
Do you have a strong hose you can aim off your front deck? But likely it wouldn’t reach far enough.
Gotta say that the Jimmy Fallon show really upped the game. Their new “soap” skit The Longest Days of Our Lives is !!! Mr. and I are in stitches.
We saw that coming from a mile away. We borrowed a couple of RTs from the Grand Rapids area the last few weeks and now their managers won’t let them come back to the east side of the state because they are getting too busy over on the west side.
Anderson Cooper and Chris Cuomo cut their own hair, with hilarious results.
The same can be said of Florida. Third most populous state in the country, similar in some ways to California in that most of its population is located on the coast with areas of relatively high density, but with the added risk of a large and vulnerable population of elderly, many in nursing homes or senior housing. And yet deaths rates have really not been much different than those of California. We are talking about such low numbers versus the populations (less than 0.007% for both states), that it is tough to say with confidence that the small difference in death rates is statistically significant.
Most of the country has done pretty well, in fact. Rather than asking what certain states did right, the better question is what the tri-state area (NY, NJ and CT) did that was so wrong. Wow, back the NYC metro area out of the equation, and the numbers say that the United States has done a remarkably good job in the face of this global pandemic.
Agreed, and that is the problem with the media focus being so NY centric. The horror of the NYC
Area situation was not replicated elsewhere, fortunately, so one shouldn’t expect that the same rules should apply elsewhere. My county has a covid death rate of 1 in 100k, all of whom were elderly, so of course restrictions are lifting here. There are some rural counties with fewer than 5 cases total. Hospitals here are at 10% of capacity. I expect political leaders are actually making quite rational decisions based upon their own situations locally.
Many people here are abbreviating things as they write and, at least for me, it’s making it very hard to decipher some posts. I know you think it’s a common abbreviation when typing, but maybe it’s not to people who aren’t in the same profession, same part of the country, or otherwise similarly situated. .
I was going nuts a few days ago wondering why everyone was talking about deaths in Alabama and it finally dawned on me that people were using AL to mean assisted living. Yesterday (I think) someone used a CCRC or something like that. From the context I assumed it meant something similar to assisted living but I’m not sure. Now someone above used RT. What in the world is an RT? Is that some sort of equipment? Many posts are just too cryptic. I know it’s a bit more work, but can we take the time to actually spell things out?
@me29034
RT is probably respiratory therapist.
