Coronavirus thread for June

Received an email from Sutter Health. They have changed clinic hours at some locations to reflect the implemented curfews.

A quick check shows their downtown San Francisco as ‘temporarily closed’.

My daughter is having a lot of trouble getting to work because of the situation in DC. Since she’s a nurse working with COVID patients it’s obviously important she gets there. Last night she ended up in the middle of the protests trying to get a bus. We are lucky to be able to help her and just had her get a black car Uber for her to get there tonight for her night shift. Pricy but worth it.

I have an ongoing search on Indeed for Contact Tracing jobs, in case I lose mine after the PPP funds run out. I’ve seen ads for contact tracers in CT. They are the only state I’ve seen that is requiring a Bachelor’s degree. Maybe they are using the volunteers in a different way than the paid workers?

The virologists on TWIV (This Week in Virology) podcast have knocked this speculation down several times. Firmly not man-made. Firmly not an existing virus that was being studied in a lab that escaped.

The panel went into details why. On more than one episode. Honestly, it went right over my head. #Notavirologist

Observation: I see hand sanitizers in abundance in every store now - wegmans, costco, wawa, cvs…

Unfortunately, I still haven’t seen nitrile gloves and Clorox wipes. I use those products daily since forever and not necessarily for sanitizing reason.

I read that World Team Tennis is going to have matches at the Greenbrier in West Virginia. Limited fan attendance to 400 if I recall correctly.

@Nhatrang

No Clorox or Lysol wipes in this neck of the woods either. They apparently sometimes get delivered to some stores, and if you happen to be there, you can buy one. I’ve seen only one brand at all since January and that was the Walmart brand. I bought my one container.

Every day, I go online and look…and see if I can order, and every day I come up zero.

My local Jewel (grocery store) had Lysol wipes one day last week, the first and only time I’ve seen them anywhere since SIP. They were also pricey…around $6 for the container, which is usually like $3.29 or so. I still bought one (the limit), but wasn’t happy about the price!

I just got few tubs of wipes for my kids. I’ve seen them on Amazon fresh and freshdirect. My kids call me when they need supply because they know I a bit relentless. D2 was moving yesterday, so I packed a care package for her to pick up - Purell sanitizer, Clorox wipes, paper towels, steak, and a bottle of champagne.

I would have called the hospital and asked them to pick up the cost of the Uber. Covid nurses are valuable!

I find wipes on Amazon all the time by checking every 15 minutes while working on my laptop. Amazon stops you from adding them to your cart, even though available, if you purchased some already in previous weeks.

If anyone is currently looking, there are 3 packs of large canisters of Clorox wipes on amazon right now. They’ll ship June 12th.

Crazy, but I checked Amazon a few minutes ago, came here and saw your post, went back to Amazon and just found and ordered a 3 pack of Clorox wipes. Thank you!

They ship June 22nd! I did get one 3-pack. And yes, you cannot order a second one - it says temporarily out of stock when I tried, along with a message that I ordered one today.

Gotta be cost savings. I believe requesting volunteers (to do the Government’s job) would be a violation of CA labor laws, so we’re gonna pay on the Left Coast.

I probably search every other day, no luck

@loveorangecats I guess it’s gone by the time i see this. Saw some all purpose wipes but not clorox, I’ll settle for that.

I wish my dentist was as proactive! I got a call on a Thursday “reminding” me of my Monday cleaning. When I said I didn’t even know they were open yet (restrictions had just been lifted), the receptionist acted like oh sure, why not. I had to ask her about their protocols; not reassured. Then I postponed my appointment until the end of June. Then I found another dentist; going next month.

What are all of you doing with these Clorox and Lysol wipes? I mean, they are convenient and I have always used them to give the toilet a wipe down every day. But if you are at home most of the time, why are you going thru them?

I have a bottle of Lysol spray (not the aerosol, the cleaner) and I just use that an a paper towel to clean off door knobs, steering wheel etc if I’ve been out. It’s much cheaper than the wipes.

I’ll see what the office has to say, but I’m not very hopeful. Their usual receptionist is on maternity leave, so I’m not sure what answers I’ll get. I may go the same route as you, @Marilyn, and switch dentists.
