Correct. And it’s not too surprising that the ones that say protesters were the ones that have single-handedly caused the current Covid spread and who also say that “all lives matter”.
See a pattern here…?
Not surprising at all. I predicted this the first week of the protests.
I was starved when the Budesliga came back so I started watching. I was over the moon when the Premier League and other English soccer (FA Cup, Championship and playoffs for League 1 &2 ). I watch more English soccer so I know the teams and am way more attached than I am to the Bundesliga.
The return of the NWSL is entirely different. I’ve been a season ticketholder for the Spirit as long as the league has been around. I’ve met a couple of players and the previous owner.
They are the 1st American sports league to return to action which is a big deal.
MLS returns July 8 and I’m as excited about that as as the NWSL.
Trying to get a temperature of the room … Which do you think is “safer”? A 10-hour car drive or a 2.5-hour direct flight? From a Covid standpoint, not a crashing-on-the-highway standpoint.
I think the drive is safer if it’s your own car (not a rental) and if you’re driving with others in your “bubble,” and if you might be willing to pee on the side of the road instead of in a public bathroom. If you have to get gas, use gloves/mask/sanitizer.
You have a lot less control over your environment on a plane - it might be totally fine, or Coughy McCovid might be seated right behind you.
OK, I would be driving by myself, and it would be a rental because dh wouldn’t let me take my car. It’s actually a 14-hour drive, but I could pick up the rental near my mom’s house, which would be cheaper, and spend the night there – hence the 10-hour drive.
I love a road trip, but this will be the longest one I’ve taken by myself. I would try to pack all my food but would have to stop at least once for gas and no doubt twice at least for the bathroom. I’ve even considered wearing an adult diaper.
I asked because so many of my friends think the flight is safer. I don’t get that. All I would have to touch is a gas pump, and I would wear gloves and dispose of them.
I had a last-minute errand to do last night, driving to the post office on the other side of town. I haven’t been confined to my house but haven’t been going far from home. The drive was about one hour total. On the way home, I realized I felt like I had been on a trip, possibly my only one this summer. Sigh.
10 hour car ride would be my vote too…over the plane ride. My family is about a 9 hour drive, and I really want to see my sisters. If I go, I’ll drive. But I have to really consider what I’ll be able to do when I get there. Two work in health care…so that has to be considered. The third doesn’t and has a large enough house that I could stay there with private bath.
But…when I make these trips, I visit my extended family too, and friends. They just doesn’t seem realistic for this year.
We are going to be taking an 18 hour drive in a month to move- me and my kids in a car and my hubs in a moving truck towing his car. The public bathrooms and hotel stay are making me super nervous. We will do it in two days, but no way we won’t have to stop to sleep, and no way to avoid public bathrooms either. I’m not sure I could get myself to wear a diaper, and I sure as heck couldn’t get my teens to do that. Even if we could pee on the side of the road, it’s illegal. Sigh.
My nephew is visiting us for the summer. His father (my DH’s brother) died suddenly and unexpectedly 2 years ago when nephew was 13. After his Dad died, he asked if he could visit us every time he would normally have visited his Dad. He lives in the upper west side of NYC. He and his mom drove here from NYC and quarantined for 2 weeks before he came to live with us a couple of weeks ago. He and DH are going to do a road trip from Dallas to Yellowstone and back soon. They will probably be gone for 2 weeks. I have loved having him, but my grocery bill has skyrocketed and I’m constantly on the lookout for new and creative recipes for dinner. It’s been hit or miss.
Nephew said to me:“What in the heck are you going to do while we are gone? Are you going to be really sad and bored?”
Has anyone discussed the potential of a modern CCC program? Instead of simply paying a stipend to help keep the economy going, and helping those who have lost their jobs, could we not find work that helps our collective selves? Even if part time on a rotating basis? While maintaining social distancing?
Roadwork continues in this area , all workers in masks, but not all jobs are heavy labor. Minor park maintenance? Contact tracing? Litter control? Food delivery? Graphics for public service announcements? Even medical personnel in my hometown are awaiting downsizing. Instead of being layed off, could they instead get paid unemployment plus the bonus to work elsewhere where needed?
Total detour on this thread, or better for another one?
I flew versus the 10 hour drive last month and felt safe, but i think it depends on the airline. Some are stricter than others. Depends on which states you are driving through? Just a different viewpoint.
