Confirmed case in Wake County, NC (Raleigh area). No email/phone calls from little S’s school yet and I swear they let us know anytime anyone blinks. DH was already planning on working from home tomorrow, but heading into the office to workout at the gym. I don’t think we’re going to lock ourselves in the house, but we’re not going to invite large crowds either.
Will maybe go cash the check tomorrow morning. Will look to see if they restocked other stuff. Fortunately not needing hand sanitizer or TP, but then again ya never can have enough TP, I suppose…
I always wear a belt with my jeans and it dawned on me that my belt and especially the buckle is probably the grossest spot. I don’t wash nor clean the belt, do you ? So for the first time ever, today after I went to the bathroom I used alcohol to clean my belt.
I went to our executive office floor and took most of small size Purell to give out to my staff. When I was at a conference room and there was a Purell pump, I took it for my office (not proud).
I talked my 85 year old mom out of flying to CA to visit my brother because D2 insisted on it. My mom will do pretty much what D2 asks her to do, and likewise D2 would do whatever for my mom. D2 said highest mortality rate is of the elder.
I attended a conference today in a federal building. The only difference from normal was the security guard asked “Are you being monitored for Coronavirus? And “Have you traveled outside the country in the past 14 days?” That’s it. The conference went in as planned with a few hundred of us crammed inside of a conference room sitting almost shoulder to shoulder. I did notice that I didn’t hear anyone coughing. I think anyone remotely sick stayed home which I am thankful for.
Just from the germ collection perspective. One goes to the bathroom, clean themselves then uses the same unwashed hands yet to buckle up, before washing their hands.
Bought needed TP and tissues at Big Lots yesterday because I heard Costco was stripped clean. Went to Costco this evening for gas and to convert my cash rewards and it was true that paper goods and wipes shelves were empty.
As mentioned upthread, I don’t get stockpiling water. Do people think the municipal water supply will be disrupted?
Nah… Mr. is not a prepper. He just does not like the feeling of ever running out of TP. Has been dealing with this habit for more than 30 years and hope to continue to do so for another 30.
On a separate note, the Costco we went to had a large selection of wine… $15 plus bottles. The cheapo wine section was pretty picked through. The store was very low on Corona beer. Seems to be a popular gag gift item? ?
I went to two interviews (volunteer commitment) in the last 24 hours and, not thinking, put my hand out to shake and each time the interviewee paused and smiled so, once realizing, I said, “elbow bump”? And that’s what we did each time.
When I finished my visit with my masked pregnant doctor, I put my hands together and did a little bow and she laughed. Maybe we should go back to the Jane Austen head bows and bobbed curtsies.
Also the nurse said elbow bumps were out in case people sneezed in their elbows.
However, I am annoyed that I can’t find hand sanitizer in any normal places. I usually have some in my car but ran out. I’m probably going to have to buy overpriced scented sanitizer at Bath and Body Works if they even have any left.
Here’s a conundrum-for anyone worried about germs, wouldn’t the outside of your sanitizer have germs? Yesterday I picked my daughter up from school where she had been weight training. Normally she washes her hands afterward before she comes outside but she forgot. She pulled out her BBW sanitizer (glad I put that in her Christmas stocking LOL). I mentioned how I must have germs all over my hands and car - I had gone for Emissions testing where the tech got in my car and turned my key in ignition, then I went to Sam’s Club where they had no wipes for the cart, etc. Anyway, she handed me her sanitizer and as I was putting it on, I realized-wouldn’t it have germs from when she first got it out of her backpack? And I’m guessing I shouldn’t have bothered with the sanitizer since I then touched my germy keys and steering wheel? I have these same thoughts when I’m washing the knife I use to cut chicken. Anyway, I digress.
We haven’t done any stocking up of anything and don’t plan to.
Dh is still scheduled to fly to London, connecting at JFK, on Sunday. He’s contemplating canceling not because he’s concerned about getting sick, but he’s worried his flight home might cancel since airlines are cutting back on flights. Is it terrible that I don’t want to lose the Marriott points he will have earned and won’t be able to replenish my stock of Nespresso pods (they are almost half the price in London than in the U.S. so he gets me a month’s supply every month). I guess if he does go, that might be the only thing I stock up on-I may have him buy extra in case he goes this time but then has to cancel next month’s trip.
We come in contact with germs ALL the time. Your immune system is going to take care of you most of the time.
This particular virus is probably not hanging out inside your daughter’s backpack, but keeping your hands off your nose and mouth should protect you from contact exposure.
Washing your hands when in doubt and keeping hands off your eyes, nose, and mouth is the best thing you can do for yourself. Easier said than done, I know, but it’s really something we all need to do better at. I’m working to get this down, because I’m pretty bad about it.
