Coronavirus: What are You doing ( if anything) to prepare/ What are you personally observing?

I’m delaying purchasing tickets abroad for a few weeks in hopes of scoring an amazing deal, but I will also buy cancel for any reason travel insurance.

We already have our whole trip to Europe this summer paid for. I bought travel insurance but I’m afraid to look at the policy!

We have 3 international trips bought and paid for, but we didn’t buy any insurance :frowning:

Ack typo in previous post- the CDC’s zombie apocalypse preparation is funny.
Just went to Costco to cash the check and buy some Gefilte fish. Didn’t even look at the TP or sanitizer supply. I did order some Zicam zinc quick dissolve things today just to be on the safe side as I hate sore throats. Was glad to hear on the radio that the price gouges were being shut down, but there were still a lot on amazon.

My ds lives in LA, but has been on a project in Seattle for several weeks - and is scheduled to continue to be for several more. Flies back and forth each week. No changes in plans from his company thus far.

I’m in the Tampa Bay Area. My Walmart Neighborhood Market was out of all Lysol, Clorox wipes, hand sanitizer, and anti-bacterial soap. I did not check water. TP was very low. We live in a small space, so not much room to stock up anything. I am not noticing any other changes. It’s high season here, and beaches and restaurants are packed. We attend trivia every Tuesday night, and with the snowbirds here, our pub turned away several folks last night because it was completely full.

I have friends who are scheduled to leave on Sunday for a two-week trip to New Zealand. I’d be concerned about getting back home.

I think things are going to get worse before they get better. Timing of this near spring break is problematic, as so many people travel then. Our very localized area doesn’t get many young folks, but as someone else wrote (I think) about this area, we have a lot of influx from all over everywhere and an older (many retirees) population. Seems like a perfect storm for issues.

My wife brought home face masks. I put them on the basement shelf next to her Y2K water.

D is headed on a study abroad trip to Peru next weekend (changed from Japan). I’m relatively confident that will go forward.

I’m not quite as confident about our planned Iceland/London trip in June. I already ate cancellation fees for my D’s school trip to London/Paris/Rome, which this is replacing, due to a scheduling conflict.

A package store north of Boston has a big sign out front for a sale on Corona beer.

@sdl0625 , from what I am reading, masks are really best for those who HAVE the disease (or have symptoms and aren’t sure), and they need to be expertly fitted, and not that great for preventing incoming germs. So in your case, I would only use that mask if I was coughing and feverish and I absolutely had to go out in public. Or, if I was forced to be in close contact with someone coughing (such as on a plane), I would ask to be moved first and put on the mask, even though they supposedly aren’t as good for “incoming”, it must be better than nothing, as long as it doesn’t cause you to touch your face. As for using it for the benefit of your household family members, I don’t know…I tend to think that, if we are talking about a household and all of those surfaces and interactions, a mask just is going to be a tiny drop in the bucket.

@ridingthewave. Thx for noticing. May she graduates and the new Power Station is a much added amenity. It was packed last Sunday with students when I went to drop her off at school.

Well, tonight going to 1871(start up org) in the Merchandise Mart in Chicago for a meet up on Augmented Reality. One of the talks is on like emergency response so that might be topical. It’s my son’s thing but he actually invited me to go… Cool!!

I got my Purell… ?

Am holding off on booking some domestic flights. Had an appointment today and pushed the elevator buttons with my umbrella.

Well, I just visited my safe deposit box. Guess where they are keeping their extra boxes of hand sanitizer and lysol? Yup - inside the vault.

I just came back from a trip. My flight was not very full. A lot of room to spread out. I am looking to see if airfare is going down for my next trip. So far, I didn’t notice any decrease. I saw a few passengers and a face mask.

Well, was just informed my order of hand sanitizer (for funeral) was canceled as they have none from manufacturer. :-(. Back to continuing the search.

Neat, had to look that up …
https://www.beloit.edu/student-life/the-powerhouse/

The founders of ABC roofing/supply live in the Beloit area, so they have donated substantially in getting this old Midwestern industrial town revitalized. Wouldn’t be surprised if they helped with the Powerhouse. Will have to check it out the next time I pass by there.

I was at Trader Joe’s and they were out of the hand sanitizer spray and nearly out of TP. The staff was amazed. I also noticed empty spaces for some of the pasta and dried beans. And there are currently no known cases in San Diego.

I did order a six pack of Lou Malnati deep dish pizzas for our son in Seattle so at least he won’t starve. And he’ll have one available for Pi Day! He did mention today that his apartment building has advised of an enhanced cleaning effort in the common areas.

I like this thread better than the other one about the virus! This one at least has a little humor and people aren’t freaking out.

Dance Marathon at Northwestern was cancelled. Like what?? Those kids are in class together, in the dorms together, eating together, partying together…why cancel an event that kids have worked tirelessly planning?

@Iglooo glad your flight was a good one. I’m kind of thinking, for those of us still flying, we won’t get sick because we will all have a row to ourselves!

Yeah, S was pleased it was so easy to get a last-minute flight at the hours and stops he preferred. He pretty low risk, healthy and 32 years old.

@HImom, I was able to buy 4oz bottles of an off brand sanitizer (GelRite) from Amazon (Click Medical I think). I ordered two cases for the wedding we are having in 2 weeks and it says it shipped today. We shall see…my earlier order from Webstaurant was cancelled because the ship day moved from March 5 to April 10.

Also, my small neighborhood pharmacy had the 2-packs of small bottles today but was limiting purchase to two per customer.

Very few people in the other thread are freaking out. Just sharing and tracking info.
