Coronavirus: What are You doing ( if anything) to prepare/ What are you personally observing?

Our office is also making sure that everyone has VPN access to log in at home. I used to be work from home at my last job, but for the past 5 years at this job I have always been in the office. Tonight I am taking my laptop home with me to make sure I can connect to everything that I need.

D2’s office is going to 50% work from home starting tomorrow. They have about 150 people in their office and they will have half the people in the office for a week and the other half WFH then they will all switch the next week. D1 is still teaching kindergarten at her charter school although 2 parents have contacted her to say they will be keeping their kids out of school until they see how the virus plays out here in SoCal.

I am calling our local BCBS support group meeting venue to see whether they are going to allow meeting to continue there or we will have a suspension as Kaiser is doing with their classes and support groups (our other meeting venue).

How many toilet paper rolls does one need for a week? I usually buy a huge pack and they last months. I thought this time I will buy just what I need in the next few weeks except I have no idea how much TP anyone need in a week.

I live alone, I have 10 rolls of TP, and I should be able to make that last 2 1/2 months (i.e., one roll per week).

Wish we had a bidet.

Thanks! That helps. I notice that I don’t use that much hand sanitizer. My small spray bottle is lasting for a few weeks now, not even half way through.

@HImom if you use a conference call line (like freeconferencecall_ com) all your members have to do is call a phone number and follow instructions to add a few code numbers. If it’s important to share info you can at least do it over the phone.

Yes, but we are mostly a drop-in type place, where patients come when they feel health enough, and getting the word our to the COPD community is often challenging, to say the least.

We will have to look into these types of options moving forward, if the van in public gatherings lasts an extended period. Will have to also pay for publicity to advise folks on the new ways if accessing the meeting.

Some of the issues with the phone is breathless folks (lung disease patients), find phones very tiring. Also, poorer folks often no longer have land lines and limited # of minutes for cell phone.

HImom, if you are able to continue meeting in person and think in-person gatherings are necessary, set up chairs far apart (at least six feet), provide hand sanitizer if there’s not a sink in the room or very close by, and be prepared to scrub surfaces before and after the meetings. If it were me, I would avoid hosting in-person meetings for people who have preexisting conditions and who are in the higher risk age groups.

@HImom just trying to offer suggestions to keep your lines of communication open between your group - even if only part of the group can take part - isn’t that better than none at all? It just seems if this group has health issues that it makes no sense to bring them out to a public meeting. Meetings of healthy people, young people, are being cancelled left and right unless essential.

My Vegas conference next week that sent out the great email with all the precautions has now been canceled. Or- postponed. I don’t think much is going to be happening. NBA season canceled. No spectators allowed at NCAA events. College classes all online. Strange times.

I just got a notice to buy NCAA gymnastic tickets, and about 2 hours later a notice that said no spectators!

I don’t think there will be much going on in the coming weeks. I did see some girls practicing soccer in the park tonight.

Yes, it is just expensive and hard to get publicity to the patients. We can call folks we have contact info for but not new referrals, etc and folks who only come from time to time.

We will discuss this amongst the Board and see what makes the most sense and is do-able among those we try to serve.

Not much being cancelled locally here. Went to a school banquet event tonight. DS went to soccer practice, full 10 fields with all age groups (6 - 18 years old) were there. Tickets were sold out for school performances.

Good luck, HImom. I realize how stressful and difficult this situation is for meeting planners and organizations generally.

I am personally observing that my anxiety level is increasing rapidly. Any suggestions for ways to harness my nervous energy and put it to better use than merely fretting? I will be staying at home (alone) as much as possible but I’d like to do some other things, too, to help out other folks.

I am cleaning and organizing the house top to bottom.

Check with your local food pantry. They might need extra help/goods as they, too, prep for Covid-19.

I put up my first jar of preserved lemons. I only mention it because it once was a hot topic in another thread.

Mr. B and I have been getting our $$ worth of the local taxes we pay - we have been going for walks on the trail in our 'hood. Those long walks are very calming. We have been sleeping well.
