Noooo. Not the NCAA!!! Basketball ?.. OK. Now I know it’s serious ?.
So I got my hair cut at the world famous… Borics and the hairstylist said the mother’s are not even nice about asking her to wash her hands before cutting their kids hair.
Next door theirs a manicure /pedicure place and they have signs asking people to wash their hands before the manicures.
Clorox etc wiped out in my area of Chicago on Lakeview area…
H and I went to Costco and Smart and Final yesterday. Costco was out of rice, water, toilet paper and paper towel. I didn’t check on Clorox wipes as we already have some. Our Costco was wiping cart handles as we entered the store also. Smart and Final had empty shelves of toilet paper and paper towels also.
I go to the Y everyday and was told yesterday that attendance was at about 50%. I use the pool and the weight machines. I always have my own towel and use the provided wipes to wipe the machines before and after I use them. But, I have always done that. I know I’ll quit going soon, but so far no one in our county has been diagnosed with Coronavirus. I also know that doesn’t mean someone isn’t walking around with it. Just don’t know how far I should push the envelope.
My next door neighbor is an internal medicine hospitalist. She says all the doctors in her hospital are undergoing special overall training how to deal with the crisis; her hospital also has designated staff to undergo coronavirus-specific training in their specialty.
She says the hospital is discussing making room for hundreds of new patients and ways to turn empty buildings into triage areas.
Her biggest concern is the lack of personnel and room. She and her husband, also a doctor, have discussed the possibility their nanny may have to move into their home to look after their two small children should they get both get stuck working day/night. But she worries most about the lack of nurses and other medical personnel who might get quarantined.
Just got an email from Kaiser this morning. We normally hold support group meetings there and were informed that classes & meetings are being suspended, including support group meetings due to COVID-19. I have amended our monthly calendar and am now trying to figure out how to post a notice on my website to reflect that change. Our meeting was supposed to be in the Kaiser meeting room on Friday!
Final update: tested positive for flu. Met with an infectious disease expert who went through an extensive history and web of people. Since there are no known links and I tested positive for flu, they won’t do the covid panel because they’re rationing the tests. Infectious disease person had a LOT of thoughts on that and our gov but that’s off topic lol.
So assuming they can get me stabilized, I’ll be sent home with tamiflu and typical flu quarantine.
Thank you. Target had some of the stuff that is supposed to work with free shipping, for anyone interested. I know bleach works and we can make our own with bleach and water. I’m just horribly clumsy and will ruin many of my clothes if I use bleach.
I’m so sorry and hope you feel better soon. Tamiflu helped me a lot this time, I think. Much less severe than when I had flu years ago. Hope the same is true for you.
S1 and DIL have been requested to work from home (not required) and D’s office still has people coming in to work. These are all in NYC. Subways are way quieter than usual and they’re dealing with getting their nanny to and from work because even if they work from home they need childcare. A first world problem, I am aware. FDIL’s office is still having people work in the office and she and S2 are still trying to decide what to do about their wedding next weekend. Me, I bought more fresh fruit and vegetables today, along with fish so I can save the back stock for when we might actually need it. Grocery store was quieter than usual at 9am today but remember, I live next door to the New Ro epicenter. Friends from Western NY (no current reported cases) are driving to a Long Island wedding this weekend - sure hope they don’t take it back with them.
My husband found some toilet paper, not the brand we usually get but toilet paper. They had a limit on 2 packages per customer. He couldn’t get other things he wanted to get as they were sold out.
I was told at work that we will work until there are cases in town and the hospital is ‘overflowing’ and then we will not work. That thought stresses me out.
My son visited a college today. They have spring break next week and will be using virtual school after that. This might be the one and only spring college visit he gets to do. I’m too nervous to do the other visits we hoped to do. They are in areas where there are more people who have the virus. This school he went to today and this area so far doesn’t have positive cases (doesn’t mean they are not here, though). I did worry a bit about whether it was safe for him to go but felt it probably was. He had a good visit. Still likes the more expensive other school better.
We are simply NOT going to have any meetings and having more quiet time at home, which is fine with me. Many/most of the COPD folks who come to our meetings are “tech” phobic and tech challenged, so having online meetings would not seem to be a very viable option at this time.
Called a nursing home a 90 year old neighbor is in rehabbing. They won’t let anyone in that’s not essential. We are his family locally so having his son, that is only 2 hours away but only visits when we tell him something is dire to add myself and my wife as family. We normally just walk in and lie.Lol… Then our neighbor confirms us. Dont really want to be arrested and see myself on the news…
Our church will be doing livestream services only for the next three weeks. No groups larger than 50 to meet in the building at any one time. If groups meet, it will be in larger rooms so there is more space (social distancing).
That made it all really hit home.
