Vail Resorts is closing all their North American resorts until March 25. My neighbors went up on Friday, since the schools have closed (and Tahoe was finally getting snow).
They will all be bummed…as snow was been non-existent most of January and February…
Just learned of 4 cases in my county, all in their 40s, 2 in critical condition. Sad and scared.
@CottonTales, I am so sorry for the lost of your business. I hope it will pick up for you.
I will not cancel mine, but also will be asking her to clean the basement and the garage as well if she wants to. And that she will use extra cleaning products. We have a ton of Clorox liquid. My cleaning ladies always wear mask, and we usually leave the house when they come. This week everyone is home so we will hang in the basement when she clean upstairs and vices versa. I am not worried about her coming. But if she doesn’t want to work I understand.
Question: do I let my 17 year old go kick a soccer ball around with a friend tomorrow?
@cinnamon1212 I won’t tell you what to do but if it was my kid I would let him.
D19 is going to the beach with a few of her friends tonight. I told her not to but she said they will be careful, her friend’s beach house is huge and quiet this time of the year. They bring food and cook at the house. 2 of the kids were the same boys who went to CA to visit her and they flew back on the same plane. I am worried but fresh air at the beach might not be a bad idea.
If they are just kicking it around and staying arms length away from each other (and others), that seems to be low risk (unless they are hitting the ball with their faces).
You can have him wash his hands, face, and the ball with soap when he gets home.
@cinnamon1212, we have 3 cases in our area. I’m discouraging my teenager to stay home for a few days. We will still walk the dog but limit interaction with others for now.
Can I just vent? DH’s niece and her husband went through with their daughter’s 1st bday party today. In attendance at this huge celebration were the grandparents and GREAT grandparents as well as many youngsters. There are confirmed cases in their county.
The thought of staying home a month doesn’t bother me, at all. Doesn’t bother H much. I’m not sure being together would work out, at least for me. I work from home, it’s tax season, and he is so LOUD. Arggg! His work won’t shut down unless mandated. We will see what happens.
@privatebanker I know where I’m going if the grid goes out. S1 & S2 have generators and lots of fuel. Large group of Amish two roads down. Those are my backup plans!
Anyone have an opinion whether the bus or Uber is safer for Seattle D to get to work? Firm pays for her Uber trip home.
If you’re feeling generous, literally thousands of restaurants around the country are providing free meals to children while seeing their own business tank. Consider buying gift cards or just donating to help.
There are also lots of local mutual aid groups popping up on social media to exchange tips and resources. Even if you’re not a big Facebook person it might be worth checking out.
@lilmom where is the “just no” button here on CC?
@romanigypsyeyes yeah in my area there are many ways to help. One has to pick and chose what they feel most connected to them. I am sure it’s like that everywhere.
I like the idea of buying gift cards from the local restaurants.
Don’t ever not have your cleaning people come. Someone else to hunt down those critters… Lol. Our kids are in college so we don’t need one anymore but we deep cleaned the downstairs since we had people over. Yikes!!.. It was clean to the eye… But yikes!
My cleaning person cancelled on me for the upcoming week. She has a cold and is staying home. She says she will be back next week. She’s worked for me for 15 years. I am often away when she is jere but when I am, she’s busy and we don’t chat until she leaves.
Today, our furious mayor sent the police to break up a crowd of revelers outside a bar on the traditional St. Patrick’s Day parade route (parade had been cancelled). The newspaper interviewed and photographed many people, including an 86-year-old tourist from Ohio, who had flown in to meet her 3 children, all of them coming from different parts of the country. She was not atypical for this crowd, who had idiots of all ages and states of residence, talking of doing a pub crawl of 249 people, so they would be below the threshold of 250.
Honestly, I think I am always surprised at just how stupid people can be and I really shouldn’t be surprised anymore. Why can’t they at least be stupid in their own hometown? And why haven’t we banned cruises?
https://www.washingtonpost.com/travel/2020/03/12/princess-viking-cruise-lines-halt-all-sailings-temporarily-response-coronavirus/ says that all major cruise lines have suspended cruise departures, although some cruises already underway will complete on schedule or terminate early.
We went for a looong walk along the lake shore today. It was cold and windy, so not so many people out and about. The restaurants looked like a mixed bag. A French place was 3/4 full at prime dinner time. A waterfront fish place had a sign that they reduced their hours to 5-8 pm, and our favorite watering hole looked deserted. We went in, and even though we had no plans to eat out, had some appetizers and wine. Left a 50% tip. The place is usually hopping, but was about 1/4 full. They had a sign that the hours are reduced, and that as a small family business they appreciated everyone’s support. If they close down, it would be a local tragedy.
On the other hand, the local nursery was BUSY. Hardly any parking. Lots of families with kiddos came over to walk the grounds and look at the farm animals and geese. At Home Depot, plant buying was in full swing. One dude joked that it was like everyone got a “spring fever.” Lol.
Metro says they clean the buses nightly. The buses do look much cleaner now. I take the bus to work. There is usually plenty of opportunity for social distancing on the bus. In a Prius, you are stuck less than 4 feet from the driver. I’d go with Metro if the bus is not that crowded.
Some good news is that Delta airlines made it easy to cancel travel online - took me 5 minutes today when earlier this week people were on hold on the phone for hours. Got ecredit for future travel within a year.
If I die from the virus, it’s totally my husband’s fault. Tonight I learned that he uses hand sanitizer - before touching stuff while out, not after. When I responded in horror, he yelled at me and said it stays wet and he’s not stupid and he doesn’t touch any doors anyway. I asked how long he thought it took the alcohol to evaporate and what does he think disinfecting means. Now I’ll have to wipe down everything he touches when he comes home because I don’t think he’ll change. :(. And he’ll probably yell at me for that.
In other observations, we went to get pizza takeout from a popular place downtown near Petco. It was packed with young people crammed together. Absolutely no concept whatsoever of social distancing. I had to handle the check folder and pen to pay. Arggh. I used my Purell when I got back in the car but am not sure if I should clean my wallet, which I touched while paying.
We’re all going to get it.
