Coronavirus: What are You doing ( if anything) to prepare/ What are you personally observing?

Baby kid and her techie BF stopped by to pick up their “care package.” They spent the day out and about on the beach (kid also biked in the morning). We kept our distance…

CC type thought.

How many personal essays will admissions have to read next year around a student’s Corona Virus related stories of adversity, concerns etc. Also, how they now know medicine, science or public health is their calling.

My guess is a few.

@Iglooo, a person definitely can get the virus without going to a hot zone. Some of the people who had traveled to hot zones and returned to my state, Wisconsin, caught the virus in the hot zones and then spread the virus to people here in Wisconsin. And you can get the virus from someone else on an airplane, even if you’re not traveling to or from a hot zone.

Hoarder!

WA will shut down restaurants, bars, and entertainment/recreational facilities statewide

Groceries and pharmacies will stay open
Restaurants are take out or delivery only
Bars that don’t serve food have to shut down
Retail can stay open with reduced capacity
Gatherings >50 people mostly prohibited

REI says they’re shutting down all retail stores until March 27.
My sister says some Vegas casinos are closing as well.

Basically the same in MA. No gatherings over 25 people. And schools are closed till at least April 7th. Casinos are also closed.

Interesting that restaurants are shut down But it’s fine that 24 people can get together.

My relative is a dentist in CA. He has a pacemaker and is over 70. He can’t find hydrogen peroxide for patients to gargle with before he works on their mouths due to shortages / hoarding. It’s very concerning. He couldn’t get clorax wipes, hand sanitizers, etc. it’s frustrating him.

@HImom. Our medical office and everyone’s is having issues on basic stock for masks, gloves, gowns etc. Lots of things are getting canceled by our suppliers that also supply the hospitals. Since we are just an office with an OR. We are not high up on the priority list. Yes, it’s frustrating to say the least. So far we are in fairly good shape.

Our son called with the news from Washington. We convinced him to stop procrastinating and go get more food (he’s been working from home for a couple of weeks). I said not to bother with Trader Joe’s tonight, they’ll be out of everything. So he went to Metropolitan Market in Lower Queen Anne, where he found most everything he wanted except bread - those shelves were empty, along with pasta and frozen vegetables. He did note that although they were out of brand name TP, they had the house brand recycled TP.

He’s looking forward to trying Canlis’s drive by lunchtime hamburger and shake pickup this week. And after reading their description, he now knows what a porte cochere is. https://canlis.com/uploads/pressrelease_drivethru.pdf

Down here in San Diego, the governor wants us seniors over 65 to self isolate. It would help if it stops raining most days. Husband decided to do biking instead of the health club. And I need to get my blood sugar down, although I’m pretty sure stress is what caused it to go up recently. We may need to fire up the hot tub.

@Marilyn - drop me a PM if your son needs help locating something.

We will be trying to support our favorite places if they have a takeout.

@BunsenBurner - thanks so much for the offer; what a wonderful community here on CC.

It really won’t be better 3 weeks from now, unfortunately.

I think this is one of those times when families and extended families pitch in and help each other out. I certainly will with my own and also friends, as well. It’s going to be awhile for the economy to recover. I just worry about folks who aren’t as fortunate as my own, who don’t have that kind of support.

Try Google Hangouts. That would work for a group.

Some of the folks in nextdoor are offering to help neighbors in need during this time. It makes me happy!

Our local med school is adjusting geriatric rotations of the med students for the next two weeks. No idea if this happened with any other specialties. Since the geriatric patients are especially vulnerable, it was a good move to reduce the exposure of patients to more people who MAY be carriers.

If anyone has a supply of hydrogen peroxide in SF or Oakland area, please PM me. Thanks.

I fully respect the seriousness of this discussion and topic but also want to say that I appreciate the bits of humor here as well.

I am sitting in an outpatient surgery room as my husband is having an outpatient procedure for a kidney stone. I actually work for this hospital system and while he hasn’t been rolled into the surgery room yet I told him he is making it by the skin of his teeth because we all got emails last night that they will be doing select procedures and non-critical procedures/surgeries tonight but will start limiting these starting tomorrow.

While I haven’t always been a big fan of our Governor (DeWine) here in Ohio, he has got my full respect for his decisions and daily clear communication on the changes here due to the virus.

Schools are closed, restaurants are closed (carry out or delivery only for now). Hospitals have a no visitor policy. We were greeted at the hospital entry (my H is having a procedure this morning) by 4 masked health care workers who questioned us on our travel history and asked a few medical questions. Once released one of the workers walked us directly to the area we needed to be - which is not standard procedure!

@abasket. Hope your husband has a successful surgery and recovery.

I just signed up to use telehealth so I can “see” patients. In all honesty, with 3 N.P.s in my office, it is as clean as can be.
