Cosmos 2012

I submitted my app last week, and they received my application documents in the mail on Thursday. (It says on my application status.)

@jesskidding one of the teacher fellows for that cluster works at my school. she’s really chill! However, I think it will be a toughy to impress her :)

for anyone who finished their application, when you check clusters, do they say “not set”? Does this mean that I didnt fill in which cluster I would like to attend because I am pretty sure I did.

@chrisLieto
same problem here.
I think it means they did not evaluate the applicant/accept him or her into that cluster yet

2 quick questions: do we need to choose 3 clusters if we really only want to go into one? If i don’t get into my first choice, i’m most probably not going to go anyway…
and do we need to fill in all 5 blanks for the activities section? a few of my friends are only putting in 3-4 but i thought you had to fill them all in

@lovecoffee104
The reason for 2nd and 3rd clusters is for you to still go to cosmos even if you don’t make it into your first choice, so they are usually clusters that you are actually interested in or okay with participating in

i’m pretty sure it is okay to leave the 2nd/3rd choices blank if you really don’t like clusters other than your first choice

@chrisLieto The “not set” will change once they start reviewing applications. I believe that if you’ve made it into the cluster of your choice, it will be displayed there. If you don’t, it will change as you get, for current lack of a better word, demoted down to your second and third choices.

@lovecoffee104 Admissions people prefer if you choose 3 clusters but you really don’t have to. And you don’t have to fill in all the activities blanks if you can’t. If you can, it is definitely recommended that you do so.

extremely important question:
when it says "Application Status

Please allow one week for processing of materials"

does it mean you won’t be able to see any immediate updates on the completion of teacher recs? I need to see the status change tonight because my teachers told me to remind them about my recs tomorrow if cosmos doesn’t indicate that they are finished D:

If your school doesn’t weight GPAs, is it okay if you put 3.9/4 to show that it’s unweighted? Or should I just keep it at 3.9?

@Momentum: Usually, teacher recs show up right away. Atleast for me it did.

Lol I’m not going anymore. Got accepted into another program :stuck_out_tongue: Have fun guys.

What program were you accepted by?

If my weighted GPA is not on my transcript, what should I put?

in the FAQ section, i believe it says that if your weighted GPA isn’t on your transcript, you just put your overall unweighted GPA

@MomentumA7 By “processing of materials” they mean receiving the documents by mail and adding them to your application. Teacher recommendation updates will appear right away.

@Mikaaa Keep the GPA at exactly what your transcript displays. So put down 3.900 (unless your transcript says otherwise). By transcript I mean transcript printout. (Don’t open the official transcript lol)

@jesskidding You were applying to EPGY right? Glad to hear you made it in!

@jesskidding Congratz for making epgy! I was accepted into that too :smiley: Which one are you going to? Also, is it true if cosmos is 10x better than epgy?

I believe COSMOS is definitely a better choice if you really want to get into the UC system. The goal of COSMOS is to keep intelligent math/science students within the state of California and the UC’s compete among one other for COSMOS participants. Regardless of the college you’re applying to, COSMOS is still a great program but if your overall goal isn’t UC then EPGY is also a good option.

Hey guys which address do we mail our transcripts/other forms to-the specific campus or just the overall COSMOS office? Is it okay if we send transcript and other forms in separate forms because my school requires that they send out the transcript separately. Thanks so much!

@cali4niastudent ALL materials have to be sent together because your confirmation page, with all of your info, goes into that packet you will send. Furthermore, the address in which to send it to will be given to you after you submit your application online. If your school requires that, you should contact the cosmos program that you are applying to and ask them personally.

urgent question!
do they have to RECEIVE your stuff by May 1 (meaning I have to mail it a week before then) or can you mail it BY May 1?
