Cosmos 2012

^ you mean March 1? Or am I missing something?

“This is a reminder that the deadline is next Thursday. The online application system will shut down on Tuesday March 1st. All supporting documents must also be postmarked by the following day normal Post Office business hours.”

It says it will shut down on Tuesday? Isn’t March 1st a Thursday???
Also, it says postmarked by the next day, so you finish the online app by March 1 and postmark the printout confirmation, check, etc. by March 2?

@lala POSTMARKED by March 1.
@Momentum It’s a typo. It’s always a whole month after when apps first came out.

@MomentumA7 Yes, you can postmark your documents by March 2 and it will be accepted. (:

I’m really scared to press submit guys, haha!

@afourally lolololol SAME THING FOR ME WHEN I SUBMITTED! XD The fear eats you alive…

Oh sorry! I meant March 1. Postmarked so it doesn’t have to arrive by then right? Ohmyy paranoia…

Also if I’m sending my transcript and money to UC Irvine, do I just send it to the school? Is there a special address? What do I exactly put on the envelope to let them know it’s for cosmos? Thanks guys!!

When you click submit, does it send automatically or do you review it? x)

@afourally - You have one more chance to review it before it sends
@lalalove7 - When you finish the online application, there should be a confirmation page that has the address of where to send it

Okay so i really want to get into the program!! does anyone know what the easier clusters to get into are at UCSD?

Stanford EPGY all da wayz to whoever asked me which program I got into (w/ full scholarship). :stuck_out_tongue: I can’t wait for Stanford professors to teach me!! Have fun at COSMOS you all. Deadline is in a week, better get those recommendations. I hope you’ve already asked all your teachers to write you recommendations because it’s a bit rude to ask only a week before the deadline. Good luck :)

@Jasmeen13 Bright Ideas: Cluster 4 is one of the least popular clusters at UCSD. Regardless, none of the clusters are ‘easy’ to get into. Furthermore, I don’t think you should apply to a cluster that you aren’t interested in. My friend applied to the astronomy cluster at ucsd two years ago and she did not enjoy the academic portion of her stay at cosmos.

@jesskidding Congrats on the full scholarship! I hope you have a good time!
@Jasmeen13 DO NOT choose your cluster by which ones are the easiest. The whole point of the program is that you enjoy yourself working in fields that you love. You HAVE to apply to a cluster in which you are interested. Don’t be discouraged if the cluster supposedly “impossible” to get into. There’s always a chance, especially if you have great essays, and you can always get into your second and third choices too. Overall, you have to pursue a subject you enjoy.

@ vivng6991 thank you! ugh now i just have to finish writing the essay…

In your essays, did you guys talk about your curiosities in that field or more about how you want to persue it in your future?

@afourally - I actually discussed both in my essay; I think it’s important to show that you interested in it in general, as well as how you want it to be a part of your future. :)

Alright, cool. I did that as well. I’m so scared ): How are your parents with all this, guys? Cause like my mom didn’t want me to do this before she went to the open house.

@afourally I’ve always been very independent with my studies. My parents do care about how well I’m doing in school, but they don’t get into my business as long as I maintain straight A’s. They support me with my decisions, such as applying for COSMOS (and will finance it for that matter), but don’t really know too much about it. (For example, they don’t know anything about the SAT and have only purchased study books upon my request lol)

My mom thought it was a great idea, but my dad on the other hand…he still thinks its a lot of money. :stuck_out_tongue: but I pumped the whole “good for college” angle, and he seems a bit more comfortable with the idea.
Which essay topic did you guys choose? An experience or what fascinates you?

I chose to write about the experience that furthered my interest in math/science.
