COSTCO Amex vs. New Costco Citi Visa

I am sure they have some procedure for this, since everything is now on the new visa card.

update:
This is from the citicard website… and is pretty vague:

https://www.citi.com/credit-cards/creditcards/citi.action?ID=citi-costco-credit-card-conversion

Has anyone been able to successfully download directly into quicken? I can manually download, but the direct link has not worked for me yet.

CNN article today highlighting the problems with the transition:

H bought gas at Costco this morning. Had to use old Amex for membership swipe then new Visa to pay. The Costco membership numbers on the backs of the cards are identical.

^^ I had the same problem and since I had destroyed the AMEX card I had to get a new separate membership card. I should have known when I looked at the back of the CITI card and it had a fuzzy pixilated picture that looked about 20 years old.

I bought gas ($1.95/gallon!) today at Costco and was able to use my new CITI Visa with no issue. I did happen to keep my old AmEX in case, but didn’t need it!

Earlier in the week my card worked at the gas pumps at one Costco. But today it didn’t work at a different Costco’s gas pump. I just went online to check my account and it says there is an error,

WE’VE ENCOUNTERED AN ISSUE AND ARE WORKING TO FIX THE ISSUE.

I’ll say.

11 million cards were mailed out…no wonder there are issues. That’s a lot of cards!

Just got my current statement from Citi bank. It shows a balance due that includes my last balance with AMEX, which i paid on May 30. I downloaded the current charges in excel and they added up correctly, but the new balance due shown on the statement front page is the total of the current (Citi bank charges)and the prior period (Amex) statement charges, as if my May 30 payment was not applied.

Has anyone else had this problem? Did anyone call Citi Bank to discuss?

Yikes. How did your daily charges look online? Mine so far include the payment made to Amex online.

My daily charges did not include any of the prior AMEX charges. But the total AMEX charges on the last AMEX bill, which I paid back in May, are included in the balance due.

On account summary, it shows the previous balance and the payment. But the total purchases amount are the total on the current bill and the previous balance.

My first Citi online statement shows an automatic payment will be deducted in July for my last AmEx charges, but I had discontinued automatic payments and already paid off that amount. I’ll wait to see what happens.

I’m confused by BunsenBurner’s statement about real time rebates. My Costco AmEx was always a month behind - the May statement only showed rewards through the end of April, etc. It was the one thing I hated about it - in order to check if I got the correct rewards, I had to pull up previous statements. But all my Visa accounts have credited rewards immediately upon statement closing, so I am hoping this will also. Transition is never easy.

@yomama My new citi online statement shows all my Amex charges for the past few months…and all my payments were listed as one huge payment made on June 19th (even though they were made in April, May and June. Is your only showing Amex charges, but no payments?

@mom2collegekids The statement shows the last month balance and the same amount as payment, which is correct. But the total balance owed are the current amount and the last month balance, as if no payment was applied.

The phone wait time was too long, but I’m going to try in the morning to talk to someone at Citi.

“I’m confused by BunsenBurner’s statement about real time rebates. My Costco AmEx was always a month behind.”

Your “current” rebate amount was always displayed to the right of your daily charges in one of the pages (since the Amex account is dead, I can’t tell which one it was, “Accounts” or something else). It was a floating number based on the current purchases/posted returns (sans pending charges). It was always higher than the statement balance because it included projected rebates on the purchases made since the previous statement.

IMO, since Amex closed out on the 20th, the current balance as of the 20th should have transferred to Visa, not the previous monthly statement balance rebate. Duh, the account is CLOSED - no returns can be posted, so the balance was what it was on the day of the TRANSFER!! Why did they have to make it so complicated?

Adding to this, those of us with Fidelity College Rewards Mastercards also got them replaced with Fidelity Visa cards!!! I don’t think I will bother ever using my new CostCo Visa if I can use the Fidelity Visa when I shop there. It is sitting in a file cabinet. I already replaced the Costco Amex with a new Amex that gives 3% back on groceries anywhere.

^^

The Blue Cash Preferred Amex gives 6% back on all groceries up to $6000. 3% back on gas and select department stores.

A friend of mine got his new Citi card and the photo on the back was not him!

There’s a fee on the Blue Preferred, isn’t there?
Oh yes I see it is $95 (or $75 until August 3). I guess that could be worth it depending on how much I spend on groceries.

Yes, $95 annual fee but that is taken care of for the first year with the $150 back after you spend $1000. The fee is $75 for the first year if you sign up before August. So that initial cash back pays for almost 2 years.
