COSTCO Amex vs. New Costco Citi Visa

Here’s a weird one - I have a minimum payment due by July 17 but the statement closing date isn’t until July 21. ???

That payment was from when I used Amex so I’m paying that now rather than get immediately socked by a late fee.

P.S. Another pet peeve - the confirmation number when you paid online with Amex was always a nice, reasonable 6 digit combo of letters and number. Sigh… now it’s a 14 digit number…

If I already have the regular Blue and already got cash back for opening the account, I wonder if I could get it again?

Not sure but worth a try @LBowie. Different card different contract is what I would think.

I just called the phone number on my Citi card to pay my AmEx Costco bill that rolled over to Citi.

We haven’t charged anything on the Ciri card so far and they have now sent me two different cards–a business and a personal, with 2 different credit limits!

Sorry about replying to my own post. but my quicken downloads started to work today.

I’m just returned from being away for several weeks. I’d received my new cards right before I left but have now gone through all my mail and don’t have a bill. I generally got my Am Ex bill around the 20-23rd of each month and it was due around the 12th of the following month. From the posts above, it sounds like my Am Ex charges will show up on a Citi bill that’s likely to have a new due date? I’m just starting to get concerned I haven’t seen one. Can anyone clarify or shed any light on the transition in billing? Sounds like calling is a bit of a headache during this transition time and thought CC might be a better way to get info

Collage, I highly recommend registering your account for online access and checking online re: billing dates and any outstanding bills.

You can call the number on your Citi card and see what the recording says about your outstanding balance and due date. My balance and due date just went from AmEx to Citi. If I hadn’t called, I would have had an overdue bill. I called and paid it by phone on my checking account, by entering the routing number and checking account number. The balance was very small (about 1/2 a tank of Costco gas).

I paid mine online or I would have been late since the payment due date was before the end of the new statement. I assume this won’t be the case every month! Just a transition…

Thanks for the quick responses. I’ll go find those cards and register them now…

OK, maybe this has been discussed but my first impression is not very favorable. I do, in fact, have a payment due 7/15. I used the online chat feature as I couldn’t find a listing of what I’d purchased between paying my last Am Ex bill and this new bill. It appears Citi (nor Am Ex) is sending me a bill and I was just supposed to know to look online to see what I owe and when it’s due.

The online chat person was lovely so I can’t fault her but I was told to request an “older” statement which will be available in 24-72 hours. (Am Ex had statements from the past 2 years available immediately.) I mentioned to the online chat person that thinking I needed to order an “older” statement was counter intuitive and she agreed with me – said she wished they’d change the wording.

Anyway, minor rant since I’ve figured it out now (assuming I really do get a statement in 24-72 hours) but this first experience has not given me much confidence in Citi or this transition. I wonder if every single person won’t be getting a “final” bill from their former Am Ex account (purchases made after their last payment/statement but up to June 20).

ETA just read the last few responses more carefully and it does look like “final” bills aren’t being sent. Can’t quite imagine the headache for the customers or the CSRs when those who didn’t think about this are outraged when they have late fess and interest accruing.

I was not aware of how the cutover billing would work. I assumed I would pay my AmEx bill from last month and I would pay the Citi next month. Normally I would pay the AmEx next week. I went on Citi’s website and May charges were due today which included the AmEx portion. A big thank you to you all!

If not for this thread, I wouldn’t have called to get my balance. I tried registering on line, but 7x they refused my bank account number. 30 minutes mutes later, I got a representative. She put the data online, and accepted my payment. It took another 20 minutes, but I think I have auto pay set up. Still worried, as I don’t see the payment subtracted from my bank account.

I havent seen a bill yet for the card that had one purchase that will transfer over. Did you folks get a bill?

**ETA I went on line and my bill isnt due til July 22. I’ll have to set up a payment through my online banking. Hope I dont have the challenge that bookworm had.

My Amex Costco bill was due 6/24. The citi bill said 7/1. I’d rather deal with paying now than fighting late charges.

The problem was the website. I’d type the info in, then get an error message. Maybe 3x laters, the info would be accepted. It just wouldn’t take my bank account info. I tried calling and using the automatic system, but still wouldn’t go thru after MANY attempts. That is why I waited for a nice representative.

My account number starts with 00, which could have been a problem. Good luck to the rest of you.

Just thought of a problem I’m going to have with this first payment. I don’t pay my bills through each individual vendor (i.e. Citi). I prefer to use my own bank’s online bill pay system. Since I haven’t received a bill, I don’t have all the info i need to set it up in my bank’s system. Guess I’ll be calling CitiBank again. So baffled as to why ‘they’ve’ elected to transition in this way.

I too was confused. I couldn’t find a bill from last month so I randomly paid $200 to the AmEx account on the date that it’s usually due. I got a paper statement from citi today with a due date of July 17, no late fee. My account was credited the $200, so I guess it worked out.

I had a lot of work getting my last payment to AMEX credited to the new account. Finally, it was figured out that two accounts had been opened and the payment went on one account and my AMEXcharges, CITI charges and balance due were on the other account. The cards I received had an old membership number that didn’t work at Costco, so I had to have a separate membership card made. They are supposed to be combining the two accounts, applying the payment correctly and sending the new one out with current membership number.

It seems to me like CITI bank was not ready for this huge changeover.

I can’t set up my bank payment until I have an address and phone # for the bill. Wonder if it varies by region. What city are your citi bills being addressed to?

I just received an email from Citi…

Hope this answers questions for some here. I stopped using the Amex on 6/10 and made a final payment to them on 6/17 based on my online balance. On 6/20 when I setup my online Citi account, it showed that amount as a transferred unpaid balance which concerned me. I waited 2 more days and checked again, and the payment is now posted and my account is correct.
