Yes…still waiting. Actually I’m waiting for my elderly mom’s card. All of her bills and mail come to my address. I’m an authorized user on all of her other cards but not Amex. Dread having to call Citi or Amex if this becomes a problem. It upsets mom when she has to answer the identity questions on the phone and of course Citi won’t talk to me otherwise.
We haven’t received our Costco cards and we’re pretty big shoppers. I am guessing that the membership picture on the back of the Amex card will still work after the switchover to Visa and that you just charge with any Visa.
Got our today. Also got an offer for an Amex card that pays 3% back on all grocery purchases… But I don’t like AMex, and I refuse to have more than 2 credit cards, so I will stick with the new Costco Visa and my other Visa.
Mom’s card finally arrived yesterday. H and mine arrived weeks ago. It’s my understanding that additional information containing specifics on the Citi Visa benefits is coming shortly. It’s also my understanding that there will be benefits to the Citi card that are better than most standard cards.
On the old Costco Amex side…I’m fighting the most surreal battle. Amex confirmed I could transfer a no longer available travel medical policy to any new Amex. It has been 10 weeks and I/they are still trying to complete the transfer. In this seeming simple process something has gone horribly wrong. Amex has issued a new policy 5 times and then promptly cancelled it. This is always followed by two letters - one saying it’s cancelled and the other saying I can’t have two polices in effect. I’ve spent at least 4 hours on the phone with them over the course of many calls. Something about how the Costco Amex is in a different part of the system and the original cancellation won’t go thru…even though it shows cancelled. Ugh. Very strange since the Amex Costco customer service has always been excellent.
I talked to a Costco rep at the store yesterday and he said that they were sending out the cards in a random way so that the bad guys would have a hard time figuring out when they were arriving where. He said not to worry about not getting mine until the 16th.
coolweather, our pictures are not black and white. I’m surprised, claremontMom that you don’t need a picture ID to prove Costco membership? When I pay with a cash card they still insist on seeing the Costco membership picture on the back of my AmEx credit card.
I don’t think it is your picture as much as your Costco membership number from the back. Although, when my daughter was in high school she used my Costco card without me, and they confiscated it! Costco let her go ahead and purchase what she had, but shredded my card and I had to go to the customer service desk to have a new one made the next time I was in. This was long before the Amex cards!
@mamabear1234 - When I enter the warehouse, I just show them the back of my Amex which doesn’t have a picture but has the Costco logo (though sometimes, they don’t even seem to be looking or care). When I check out, they look at the Amex card initially for membership, ask me if I want to also pay with it. When I say yes, they ask to see a picture ID and I show them my driver’s license. I’m not sure if they are looking because I am using a credit card or because of the membership. But based on the timing of the questions, it seems more like it’s because I"m paying with a credit card. Maybe one day I’ll pay with cash and I’ll let you know.
Since I never took a picture, my new Visa cards don’t have a picture either.
I have no memory of being asked for my photo ID at any Costco. My card has a card has a very grainy, pixaleted photo of me. It’s pretty ancient but that is fine for charging. I don’t believe they really look. The Costco I most frequent actually knows me by name and face because I am often there several times/week.
I am still waiting too. They told me that there are lots and lots and lots of people who haven’t received their cards.
The door monitors at the two Costcos that I frequent know me pretty well. But I still flash the logo/picture side of my (soon to be useless) AMEX. D has an older card of mine that she uses for gas when she runs across a Costco.
Friday H and I were at Costco and I overheard several people ask the door monitor and our cashier. The answer was don’t worry the cards are still rolling out. Our cashier said his Mother hadn’t received her card yet.
So as I was pumping gas a Costco today, it occurred to me that if the new card doesn’t arrive on time, I won’t be able to get gas, because even if you use a different card to pay, you still have to put your Costco card in first.
I went into the store hungry (big mistake) and headed home with all sorts of things I should not have bought. And… In today’s mail… Finally. The new card.
