That’s an old article. Costco executive membership now costs $65 more than standard, so spending needs to be $65/2% = $3250 per year, to break even on the 2%.
The specific numbers are largely irrelevant for me, as I am not going to either $3000 or $3250 per year, unless there is an unexpected large purchase, such as hearing aids. I haven’t had anyone trying to upsell my membership, except possibly during my initial sign up. I initially joined as an executive for the larger bonus and other sign-up benefits. When the end of the year was nearing and it became clear that I was not going to reach the minimum spending levels for break even, I requested a refund. You can request a refund for executive membership at any time for any reason, including with the reason being you did not reach break even spending levels.
I tried a new product from Costco that I am liking.
I haven’t jumped on the chia seed train. The idea of the texture was a turnoff to me. But my daughter who is texture sensitive was talking about her chia seed pudding for breakfast and how she liked it.
I bought this product at Costco. Already has some sweetener and flavor in it. I mix a “serving” - 1/3 cup mix, 1/2 cup milk (they say water, I use milk)- and then put that one serving in two 4 oz containers - so a smaller “snack” serving. I add a few almonds and dried cherries. It has become a nice mid-late morning snack for me! I prefer a savory breakfast so this is a nice bit of sweet later in the morning.
The ratings on Amazon seem not that great but most of the comments are on the vendor/delivery, not the product.
I was at a vegan jazz bar/restaurant last Saturday and had something like this–a custard made from plant milk, topped with a thin layer of peach syrup and toasted coconut and ground chia seeds. It was really delicious.
Does anyone recommend any of the protein powders they sell at Costco? I don’t get enough protein, and I’m not good at taking supplements. BUT, I’m thinking I need to do better with both, and I want to try.
We use the Gold Standard Whey protein. We’ve bought it from Walmart for years, but I have to thank whomever mentioned the Costco sales a few weeks ago. We actually got a regular membership right before they increased the prices. We live > 50 miles from Costco and don’t expect to get any real benefit for it. It’s more or less something for us to do once in awhile for fun. But, they were selling the 5.64lb bags for $50. Walmart is $65 for 3.89 pounds. I think we got our membership’s worth right there with 2 bags.
The pumpkin pie is already out! We got one for the Eagles season opener tonight. I don’t like pumpkin pie, but such a great dessert for a group.
Another great deal IMO are the soy candles.
A friend’s son (5) loved the pumpkin pie, and she gave him a piece for breakfast every day in the fall. He was very sad when they disappeared after Christmas every year and he had to go back to eating regular breakfast food. He’s now 30, but I bet he still loves the pie for breakfast and will be happy to learn the ‘fall’ starts in August now.
I did the Sam’s Club pumpkin pie last Thanksgiving. Although it was firmer and more presentable, I hear there are more artificial ingredients. The Costco pies allegedly have more natural ingredients. Are the rumors true?
Reporting! Just steamed a few for lunch. Delicious. The filling tastes like real pork, and the dough is firm and chewy with just the right texture. Definitely not for vegetarians, but meat eaters appreciate them. I think there are 4-5 servings in the package (who will eat only 3 dumplings ?) They definitely need to be spaced an inch apart on the steamer insert because they enlarge as they cook.
I’ve heard the co-founder of the brand speak at a B-school event. She was a great speaker and quite an inspiration for the entrepreneurial minded students.
I buy the Orgain Organic protein powder from Costco. There’s a no flavor, vanilla and chocolate. I buy the plain, my daughter likes vanilla. It’s sold at Whole Foods and sometimes TJ as well.
I liked the Mila dumplings too but felt the filling was too “meaty”. Wish Costco carried a shrimp or shrimp/pork version or that the pork version had something added like chives or leeks to break up the big ball of pork.
I looked into ordering straight from Mila because the make other kinds but they were too expensive for me to splurge on.
True! I was thinking the same, although the meat was tasty. I am not a fan of shrimp, but some cabbage or other veggies would have been a welcome addition!
