Could someone explain to me what a research internship is?

I’m new to this forum, so I’m sorry for my lack of knowledge. In my day of reading the forum, I’ve been hearing about research internships a lot. I’m currently a high school sophomore, and would love to get an internship for studying neurology. (probably really out fetched) Are research internships only in the summer? What exactly are they?

If someone could help me understand, that would be fantastic.

Thank you!

bump

honestly, a lot of people in these forums call things ‘research’ when its not-- or call a couple days hanging out with a real-life scientist as an ‘internship’ – of course its always exaggerated (Some people actually do research and internships though)

Your best bet is to ask you science teacher, and if not your science teacher maybe another science teacher in your school that is possibly friends with connections to other scientists or science teachers and such.

You should look it up on google and see if they have any in your area. For example, here’s one in San Diego. <a href=“California Outreach Programs | Scripps Research”>California Outreach Programs | Scripps Research. Just search for “research internships high school students” and see if you can find one!
