Also on the Nauru post, i think it was the Times World Ranking the highest ranking for a Dutch University was TU Eindhoven and shortly followed by the UVA. This is right behind Boston University and that is pretty good. Although i cannot agree with this ranking because i think it is very biased i can agree that Dutch Universities fare well on rankings.
I also believe the UVA is a better institution then the VU, but then again doesn’t the VU have a better Pre-Med program ?

I attend a German Gymnasium as well =)
According to the WES Grade Conversion Guide I’ve a GPA of 3.5 (which is not outstanding, but okay…). However, only a few colleges ask for an external evaluation by WES/ECE/…
Does anybody know how other colleges evaluate our grades? Are they stricter?

I am not sure if colleges routinely convert foreign GPAs to the 4.0 scale at all. An estimated class rank tells colleges more than a converted GPA and one doesn’t need to convert grades to identify strong or weak subject areas.

I’m from Switzerland, and my Dean converted my grades to the American system. Not sure if colleges will use his scale, though. And what’s this thing about having your transcripts evaluated by WES? Never heard of that before, seems like the colleges I’m applying to don’t require it. So, should I calculate my GPA or just leave the field blank?

Thing is, I only had 4s in maths during 10th and 11th grade. My class (or my teacher) was really bad, we usually had an average of 4.0 to 4.3 in our tests, but the colleges I’ll apply won’t know that…
(I’m getting better grades in 12th grade now.)

What about colleges that offer merit scholarships? There’s usually a GPA cut-off calculated on a 4.0 scale.
I suppose I should ask these colleges directly… ^^

awelex, I would submit the converted grades in addition to and not instead of your original grades (you can indicated both GPAs in the GPA field). Colleges that don’t routinely receive applications from international students (i.e. low tier colleges, those without a numerical US News rank) often require WES evaluations.

barium: Well, he didn’t convert the grades, he only provided a conversion chart. So I’ll send the original grades anyway. But I’m wondering, how did you calculate your GPA? Did you only use your Abitur grades? I have no idea how to go about calculating my GPA…
