Counselor Query

I’ve attended one school from pre-primary to 10th, and then did my 11th and 12th elsewhere. Is it ok if my counselor is the principal of my previous school?? Or does it have to be someone from the most recent school attended??

Most recent school.

^Well, my “most recent school” guy is not going to do anything for me. He does’nt even know English for that matter.

Now what??

I’ve a friend who is from Jharkhand … Probably no one from his state has ever applied to U.S before … He comes from a verrrrrry rural area but is a very bright stud ( got a 2320 )

He called them up and asked abt this … they said let the counsellor write it in his own language and u convert it to english … u must have a translation

Arrey, u to anyway are writing ur reccos na so write the ‘guidance’ counsellor info also by urself. What’s da prob?

Yeah, you just have to attach a translation along with the name of the translator to the original copy and send it.
The original copy’s for checking if the translation matches the real thing and since Hindi’s a pretty widely known language, verifying shouldn’t be a problem.

And I agree with compscifan. What’s the problem?

Get it translated by USIEF.

If the principal is not willing to do anything, tell your parents to speak to him and make him understand. Patao him man :P

First off, my principal can write only in Telugu - not Hindi. I can’t translate Telugu, and nor can my parents.

The problem is, my old school counsellor knows me very well. He’s already agreed to write a reco for me, and I know he’ll write a glowing one, since I was his favorite student (more or less). Why should I go through translation hassles when someone who knows me much better is willing to write in good English??

And no I’m not writing recos myself (even my teacher recos). I had initially thought that no one would write for me, but everyone from my previous school are turning out to be very helpful. But both my teachers and principal are from the previous school.

Does it matter really?? I mean, after all, my previous school folk know me very well, since I studied there for 12 years. They are sure to write specific recos which will give colleges a better understanding of me as a person. That’s the whole point right?? How does it matter if the teachers in question were from this school or that planet??

He can write only in Telugu… and he’s the principal?

^Welcome to Narayana.

He’s not even educated I think. But he’s principal because he’s 6’4 and 140+ kgs. Goonda type. Very useful in hitting students. I’ve never been hit myself, but I’ve seen him smash my friends like hell.

Its not a good idea at all 2 have all ur recs by jr high teachers. One is the max people do ane even that is not recommended.
And counsellor has 2 be from most recent school. The time factor can be explained in the rec. Get telugu 2 english by usief

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaahaha goonda type I can only imagine!!! Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaa

Yeah seriously dude HE HAS to write it for you. There’s no option really. Has to be from the agc/princi of the school that you currently go to so hard luck mate

What is USIEF??

I know it’s not recommended, but no college objects technically to it. It’s not like they’ll declare my application invalid because of this right??

[USIEF]( http://www.usief.org.in)

Here you go.

^Thanks. And pray, do you have anything to say on this??

^ Well I’m in a similar situation. I spent 10+ years at my previous school. I dislike my present school as much as you do. In fact, as I write I’m having a heated argument with someone over my school. :o:

But my present school * is my * school. And I’m scared of my principal as well. I called him a KGB officer one day when I was talking to Aniruddhc. You have to just take what they throw at you. As you overcome your adversities, you’ll become a stronger man.

Get your recs translated by your English teacher(s). If they don’t accede, kneel down and beg. Your teachers surely have a heart.

Well, it’s not that the teachers from my most recent school won’t help me at all (apart from the principal of course).

What I’m asking is, can’t I use my 9th and 10th teachers at all?? Of my own free will, regardless of the situation at my most recent school/? As I said, if I do use my previous school teachers, I’ll get genuine recs, and at least one of the recs will describe me “as one of the best students I’ve seen” (it’s a very likely possibility, since I was the topper for 8 years, as well as being very involved in EC’s).

Teachers from my last school don’t know me at all. Even if they could speak and write English, they would have nothing to write about.

You can use any of your grade 9, 10, 11 and 12 teachers for your LOR’s.

However, the counselor that fills your school forms MUST be the head of your current study course (e.g. A-Levels) or the principal of your current school. He will have to include all the information regarding the transcripts from your previous school, which through admission protocol they should already have. My advice would be to sit down with your principal one afternoon and the two of you can walk through the entire process together - its not a lot of work; just a lot of scanning and uploading documents. If your principal is not cooperative as far as the recommendations go, then with his permission, you can type in the LOR yourself. I don’t really recommend doing this though because if the schools communicate with your principal and he has no idea about what the LOR says, then it looks really shady.

Also, if your school transcripts and course outlines are not in English, you must get them translated into English and then send both copies. I think [World Education Services - International Education Intelligence](http://www.wes.org) is a suitable site for credential evaluation which you may be required to carry out for some schools such as The New School (in NYC).

I hope this helps though I feel like I am simply reiterating what everyone else is saying.
