Hello. I am an incoming First Year to the University. However, I am having conflicting emotions about what courses to take. I intend to double major in Computer Science (B.A.) and Foreign Affairs (B.A.) Which set of courses would be better suited for a First Year and which would be better overall? I have satisfied ENWR and Foreign Language as well. Thanks again.

Set A
ASTR 1210 – Introduction to Sun and Solar System (Evans)
TBTN 1010 – Elementary Tibetan I (Nepali)
PLCP 3610 – Chinese Politics (Womack)
RELB 2054 – Tibetan Buddhism (Schaeffer)

Set B
ASTR 1210 – Introduction to Sun and Solar System (Evans)
PLCP 3610 – Chinese Politics (Womack)
CS 1120 – Introduction to Computing (Weimer)
RELB 2054 – Tibetan Buddhism (Schaeffer)
EVSC 1010 – Practical Concepts of Environmental Sciences (Blum)
LASE 1605 – History of Mr. Jefferson’s University (Gilliam)

It’s hard to give you advice without knowing why you’ve chosen the classes listed. But my advice would be: take one course each in the areas of your potential majors–from this list, the China course and computer science. Comp sci is especially important, as Hazel notes, because you want to start the introductory classes now if you intend to declare the major later. LASE is going to be very enjoyable and informative, so take that one too if it fits into your schedule. Why are you thinking of taking Tibetan? If you are going to need it for your foreign affairs major, then you should start now–otherwise you’ll have to wait a year or take it over the summer. Take either astronomy or environmental science if you need it for your distribution requirements.
