Craig and Galen Brown Foundation - 2020

@ATTX, thanks for quick reply. No idea how many are flying with him. Guess we will know tomorrow.

@val0822. Maybe he is the only one flying in from your area
 are you in DFW? Ms. Matthew, at least in my son’s case, always told him how many others were also flying in for the interview.

I forgot to mention that the pick-up person did show up a bit late (about 20-30 minutes), so if it may happen again. Just make sure he has something to entertain himself during the wait in airport, because the foundation drops them off about 2 hours before the flight. Here is a video I showed my son before his flight https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vh8eCVE4iBg, but sadly he did not try any of them :slight_smile: because he had 3 others to chat during the long waiting due to the delay.

Good luck to your son. Please let us know how the interview goes and the result.

@ATTX, video is very funny! Yes, I am in DFW area. And Ms. Matthews did not say anything about anyone else. It’s good to know pick up person may come late before hand. Waiting there and not knowing would cause unnecessary tension.

Did they inform Yea or Nay same day?

@ATTX, did your son wait in baggage claim area of his flight?

Yes to both of your questions. Mr. Brown told my son his decision on the same day
 so that was very nice (save me from more worries). They waited for the driver in the baggage claim area of the flight. It’d be nice if there are others also fly over from DFW with him.

Just remember that Friday return flight will be packed. Last Friday they asked 16 people to give up their seats (prob. worse than usual due to there was also a cancelled flight) which delayed the flight another 40 minutes to get enough ppl to give up their seats.

Hope there are still some invites coming out. My son has not received anything yet

@val0822. How did it go for your son? Keep us posted.

@macarthur. I think TXRunningMom in her earlier post said something about mid or late February?

@ATTX, they offered scholarship to my son. He is not sure about what all he is getting. I think they don’t offer the same scholarship to everyone. So we will wait and see once we get written offer.

Did your son got his written offer yet? Is your son getting tuition and board for all 4 years + PES?

Hello everyone! I have been following this for updates, and I now have my own experience to share. Hope this helps!

I am an out-state-student and NMSF who received an email in early December asking me to participate in a phone interview. I did a phone interview on 12/30 and was told that I would hear back in about a week with a decision.

I was starting to get worried, but on 1/16, I received an email from Ms. Matthews that Mr. Brown wanted me to sit in on what he was saying to other students and their parents. We had a conference call this morning and there sounded to be about 7-8 students and their parents there in person and 3 over the phone. The people in person had not yet interviewed, but the 3 on the phone already had. The call lasted about 90 minutes and consisted mainly of Mr. Brown discussing what he believes we could achieve at A&M as Brown scholars. After, the three of us on the phone were told we would hear back within the next week.

That afternoon I received a personal call from Mr. Brown offering me a scholarship. While he did not provide specific numbers, he said that I would be offered tuition, housing, and “3 meals a day, 7 days a week”. He told me that I should expect both an email and a letter in the mail with details soon.

I am overjoyed to be chosen, and I hope my experience can give some clarity to others currently going through this process. I can’t wait to meet my fellow Brown Scholars at A&M! (and let it be known that if you are anxiously awaiting a response from the Brown Foundation, or any other scholarship for that matter, don’t fret; good things are coming!)

@val0822. Congratulations! My son was offered a specific dollar amount for his undergraduate and plus one year of graduate study. Any money not used for his undergraduate can be used for summer enrichment programs or saved up for his graduate program.

@MCDLA27. Congratulations!

Is a Brown Scholar similar to the Brockman Scholars?

@tristatecoog The Brown Scholarship is for National Merits and by invitation and interview process with Mr. Brown (no application process beyond applying to TAMU). The Brockman Scholarship is from an outside organization and requires a separate application and interview selection process by the Brockman Foundation. The Brockman requires at least 1400 SAT for application but students do not have to be National Merits.

If offered the Brown Scholarship, how long do you have to accept it? Is there a time frame on acceptance?

@MCDLA27, Congratulations!

@ATTX, looks like they provide different benefits and scholarship for different major. I am glad we found out Brown Scholarship for my son.

That’s interesting to know. The written offer should be there by Thursday.

Ms. Matthews will send an email to sign up for the campus tour soon, if not yet (we received the email the Monday following the interview).

@NotPlayingAround. According to the letter, it just says as soon as possible. I assume before the acceptance deadline for A&M?

Thank you for the reply. Very helpful thread!

Just want to make sure we understand how this works

My son wrote an email to Ms. Matthew last Friday to let her know that he won’t be able to make decisions on which colleges until mid April so he won’t be able to sign and return the acceptance for Brown scholarship. Today, he received an email reply from Mr. Brown himself. We read it several times, I think what Mr. Brown said was signing the acceptance does not bind my son to A&M, only that if he attends A&M, he will be a Brown scholar. Is this correct?

@ATTX, no idea about it. Hope someone else have insight into it.

My child is also a Semifinalist. He made it to the interview portion for Brockman but has not heard from the Brown scholarship at all.
