Credits being used towards a Major and Minor?

This is a general question towards the what a credit can go towards. Can one class be used to satisfy 3 credits in your major and minor? Also does using AP credit for a class mean you don’t need that class and therefore you get 3 unrestricted credits?

I was thinking of getting an Engineering in Business minor along with the prospective Systems Major. Is this possible to do and still graduate in four years while not having to overload my schedule? I believe the minor requires 18 credits and Systems majors get 9 unrestrictive credits. Can I use these credits toward the minor? Also can I select my 9 credit applications sequence (Financial Systems for example) to coincide with my leftover 9 credits required for the minor? So will the unrestricted and application sequence credits count towards my minor also well?

Engineering Business and Systems is extremely doable – you won’t overload yourself. Double-counting credits depends by department. Systems allows you to double-count, but McIntire (which runs Engineering Business) doesn’t, so you can’t use those credits for both. However, that is very rare – you can double count classes for almost every department. For example, if you pick your Systems electives right, you can get an Economics major by taking just one more class.

The Systems staff is trying to get McIntire to let them double-count, though, so it’s possible that they’ll let you by the time you’ve declared.

Hope this helps.
