Well, if it were only a matter of companies trying to market their goods, it would only be an annoyance. I’m afraid, though, it’s going far beyond that. And even if a person doesn’t mind their own personal date being used (having nothing to hide anyway) it seems data analytics is shaping the world in profound ways, some for the good, but with potential for the most sinister.
Just read this by chance last night. By posting this link I’m not trying to be political, per se…I’m assuming that what is described in this article…the use of our psychological profiles, mined from our online data, could happen through any political entity in the present and future, whether on the far left or far right:
Yes, isn’t it? I really don’t want to know about this stuff, just want to ignore it and go about my life…but I think we all ignore it at our peril. I think about history, for example, how ordinary Germans may have wanted to push things out of their minds in the 1920s and '30’s until it was too late, and everyone, no matter what their views, were caught in a trap.
