So I’m applying to UVA this year and I’m having difficulty deciding between the engineering school and the arts and sciences school. I’m wanting to study computer science and / or business, so possibly double majoring or doing like a 5 year masters or something. I plan on getting an MBA and/or a masters in CS. I’ve heard that the BACS is more well-rounded and general and the BSCS is more focused on programming and coding. How should I go about doing this? Which school should I apply to?

The BACS has almost all of the same COMPUTER SCIENCE classes involved, the differences is in the “integrated electives” versus the eschool requirements of physics, chemistry, systems engineering, etc intro classes. So there will be an equivalent amount of programming in the BA and the BS.

You can do a business minor in the e-school as discussed in a recent thread in this forum.

If you’re hesitant about coding, or lots of science, you should probably just apply to arts and sciences and then you can do the BACS if you still like CS after all of the intro programming classes. CS might not even be for you if you don’t like programming.
