C's = Disqualification?

Grr…so my dad keeps telling me all these things about college (probably to get me to work harder nonstop) and i’m pretty sure they’re not true…

if i got one c my freshman year and one c my junior year, does that AUTOMATICALLY disqualify me from the UC’s?

yep… UC’s don’t like seeing people with Cs… Remember, Cs are average grades…

Of course it doesn’t diqualify you even from selective UC’s such as UCLA and UCB. I don’t even think freshmen grades count for the UC gpa.

paulfoerster, can you p lease elaborate? i mean…even if my gpa is higher than a 4.0, c’s look bad?

Cs are fine, sheesh.

GUYS…college is sooo much more easier to get in than you think…stop panicking…a friend of mine w/ 2 Cs one in bio and another in phys in 10 and 11th grade already got in ucla engineering, probably got into ucb also, plus his sat was below 1900 and gpa was below 3.6 so breath =D

out of curiosity, what about D’s? if someone got one D would they be automatically be disqualified from UC’s?

There is no such thing as “automatic disqualification”. So what if you get one D? No it won’t help you, but it won’t stop you from going to college. God, grades aren’t everything.

Actually, there is such a thing as automatic disqualification from the UCs. You need to meet eligibility. Not that hard mind you, 3.0 GPA and the A-G classes.

There are many students w/ multiple Ds who got into ucb and la o.O don;t let the people on cc intimidate you =(

THERE IS NO “AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFICATION!”

If you get Ds, then they may not be accepted by UCs to meet A-G requirements, but Cs are perfectly acceptable.

There is a horrible stigma that says that a C will taint your record forever and that if you get them you can never get into a good college. That’s complete bull.

I myself have gotten Cs, and I have already gotten into good colleges and I have applied to some very strong private schools. There has been a strong movement away from that old school way of thinking in the past decade or so. You no longer have to be a perfect student. Colleges want to see that you can excel in an area you love and that you are passionate. Admissions officers people, they are not some horrible all-powerful dieties who will smite you down with their lightning bolts if you have a C on your transcript.

Stop thinking like this and go pursue something you love. If you show colleges that you have your own strengths and weaknesses and that you are enthusiastic and passionate about different areas of your life, that’s what matters most.

What if you get a C during second semester of your senior year, after midyear reports? Would ivies and other elites such as Duke and Stanford rescind your application?

bump bump.

Rescind. Over. A. C.

Please tell me you’re joking.

well, uc berkeley is a really good school…and most of their applicants have perfect A’s…it’s not a ridiculous question.

…drsarah…you are intimadated by these people on this forum. students w/ multiple Cs get into ucb…and no ucb will not revoke an admission based on one c…since they accept people w/ multiple cs during the review…

i hope so…since on another thread (“City of Berkeley–AMAZING”), one cal student told me that i had no way of getting in…i just want a realistic, honest answer.

Do you mean a C for one quarter, or a C for a final grade? Because I don’t think colleges see quarter grades except for senior year.

no, this was a final grade…which is why i’m freaking out about it.

oh, well like others have said, there is no such thing as automatic disqualification, so as long as everything else is strong, you should be fine!! :)
