@Sybylla - I just put in a request for two in the box that asked where we had heard of the recall. If it doesn’t work, I’ll try calling them or just fill in another form, maybe in H’s name.
^easier for everyone
I checked last night, and of course my 1983 model has the rivets. The general number DLC 7 is on the list, but my specific model – DLC 7 SuperPro, that’s what the tag on the bottom said – was not on the dropdown list in the online request form. It had DLC 7 Pro and DLC 7/[something]/SP. I guessed the SP one. The blade just has DLC 7, so I’m hoping whatever blade they send me fits.
(Not that there’s anything wrong with the blade I have. I looked pretty carefully – no hairline fractures, or anything like that. We don’t use it that much, although we use it enough to keep it on the counter.)
There was a drop down menu on the website…dlc7 pro was not listed…unless one of the other DLC7 models is IT. Which one would, that be?
I found it…and just completed the form. The DLC 7 Pro is listed near the bottom of the list…not with the other DCC 7’s at the top.
@JHS I’m with you. I know mine is a DLC 7 Pro…but the bottom of the machine says DLC7P.
And like you, my made in Japan blade is fine…or so it seems.
Wish they would recall my miniprep…not riveted…but the plastic on THAT is cracked…and it should not be!
So the big question…will my new blade last 33 years? I doubt it.
My miniprep got busted in less than a month after I got it for free for some promotion. You get what you pay for?
I don’t use mine much and the blade is in perfect shape. I think I’ll take my chances if I need to use it before the replacement arrives and will just inspect it. Can’t imagine how they’re going to ship out millions of blades all at once.
ETA: with 30 injuries per 8 million some-odd blades, I don’t think it’s an unreasonable risk!
I went ahead and submitted the form for a replacement, assuming that DLC 10 Plus is the same (or at least similar enough to) DLC 10P. My blade looks fine, but better safe than sorry. I still think it’s kind of strange that they’re saying all riveted blades are affected, but that it’s only for the past 20 years. Clearly, many of us have riveted blades from the 1980s.
I’ve got a DLC 7 with a riveted blade. It’s an older model that’s probably from the late 80s. I looked at the blade and noticed a very small section of the blade that as a tiny gouge in it. Model is DFP 14BC–it’s on the list. I got on line and registered; no problems. Note says I’ll receive a replacement in the mail and there are directions on how to return the old blade.
You don’t retrurn it. You use their packaging to safely discard.
I have a DLC7 Super Pro, but I just clicked on DLC7 Pro. The blades I have were made later, anyway, since I long since replaced the original one, which had cracked badly across the rivets. and part of the metal had actually fallen out. (Never thought of returning it, duh.) I eventually bought yet another one, since activities like chopping chocolate are hard on the blade, which was dinged along the edge.
So now I have two riveted blades, since I kept one. One is cracked across a bottom rivet, one across a top rivet. I briefly considered trying to get both replaced, but decided it wasn’t worth the effort. If I get one new one, I’ll be happy. I bought the machine in 1983, IIRC.
I’m betting that the food processors made after the 1980’s don’t last 33 years!
I love mine…DLC 7Pro. Funny story…I worked part time at Medi Mart which is now Walgreens. They were owned by the same company as Bradlees…which is totally gone now. We got 50% off on items for ONE day during the holiday season. So…if I went to Bradlees to get my Cuisinart which I had been wanting for a long while, but could NOT afford.
The price was well over $150 and I expected to pay $75. Well…it rang up as $50. I politely said I thought it wasn’t right, it the clerk said…it was right! So, my 1980 something DLC7 Pro cost about $50.
^That makes it good buy of the century!
For folks who got the new blade and packaging to dispose of the old blade–did you just throw the old blade and packaging in the regular trash?
FYI - my reply email from Cuisinart went into my gmail spam folder. One of their rare mistakes.
You got a reply email?? I didn’t!
Anyone get a blade yet? I just realized I need my blade to make my latkes.
I used my old blade tonight. Life goes on.
My blade has a hairline crack on one rivet and is missing some metal on another. Duh, I don’t need that blade to grate the potatoes
