Current UT Austin Student Answering Questions

Hey people,
I am a current sophomore at UT Austin, and I wanted to help out any future students going to UT.
I am a Business Honors and Economics Major at UT, but do have a fair amount of info about other majors and events around campus.
I’ll do my best to answer any queries y’all might have.

Hi! Im a rising junior from CA and UT’s business honors program is my top choice. I have as unweighted 4.0 gpa, got a 33 on my ACT, and i have a solid amount of extracurriculars. What do you think my chances are?

Hey!
With your scores, I think you have a great chance of making it to BHP.
However, try to be involved in extra curriculars. One of the most important things is that show quality in involvement and not quantity.
That being said, do not be disheartened if you do not get in. Not getting into BHP is not the end of the world; all of the majors in McCombs are equally great and are highly ranked. Employers greatly value non-BHP majors too.

@abhi30196 Hey! I’m from in-state and plan on touring soon, but could you give me any information you know in regards to the nursing school as well as the Moody College of Communication? Also, what do you normally do for fun? Thank you!

@DP2016
hey, I’ve heard a great deal about Moody as my roommate was an advertising and human relations major. He loved the classes and found them stimulating. He, however, did take a few classes in McCombs (through BFP) as he was looking to make himself better rounded for recruiting. That being said, Moody is definitely intellectually challenging and you’ll have fun there. I haven’t really heard much about the nursing school.
I am a part of the Texas table tennis team which is really fun. We practice about 9-13 hours a week and it’s a good way to Friday nights for non-drinkers (haha nerds) like me.
I am also part of the undergraduate business council which is a representative council of McCombs. They put on a lot of events in McCombs and I’ve done committees for three of them.
I am also a research assistant for the stats department and that keeps me occupied for about 20 hours a week.
Other than that, I just work out, play a little piano and try to get meals with friends!
There is plenty to do at UT and I’m sure you’ll find your niche.

Hey @abhi30196 ! I will be applying to UT Austin for Mechanical Engineering and I would like to know how good these stats are : http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1789061-chance-an-international-for-ucb-ucla-umich-ga-tech-and-more.html#latest

Thanks !

Hey Abhi.
I’m currently studying in 12th grade CBSE PCM pursuing major in Engineering. Got 8.6CGPA and 9CGPA in 9th and 10th respectively. However my scores in 11th fell down steeply with a 59% average.
Messed up my 12th grade first semester as well. Scored around 70% average. My 2nd semester exams begin in a few weeks and I’ll do pretty solid in those though.
To sum it up, My academical performance sucks.
I have a SAT score of 2070, and good track of community service. Also my extracurricular(s)are very strong, having several awards and a national level scholarship certificate in music.
Considering my essays will be just fine, Which universities should I target? Because of low academics yet well above average in other aspects, Its giving me a hard time to shortlist universities. Any tips you want to include in general?
It’d be great help if you reply, even though this isn’t a UT Austin specific.
