I decided to start a positive thread. Keep the negatives over in the vent :)

Southwest Air is fantastic.

godaddy.com

When I read the title to this post, I cringed, thinking this would be the shortest-lived thread, not being able to come up with one company… until I read mini’s response.

DITTO to Southwest!

If anyone wants to add any stories or whatever that would be great too.

Mixed emotions on this one. This post may need to be thrown out.
ATT-Cingular had the most helpful folks on the end of the International Calling Plan help line.

However, they had the most inept, uninformed, and sometimes rude people staffing the stores. I talked to 5 different people in 2 stores, and not one ever gave me all the information that I needed about a topic.

A Sheraton call center rep went way out of their way to help me get into a hotel when I decided to book a Hawaiian vacation two days before leaving during a peak time (summer). He probably spent at least a half hour with me, called the hotel to see if anything could be done when it was showing ‘full’, and managed to get me in there.

Also, T-Mobile’s call center people (NA-based whenever I called them) were always friendly and helpful. It’s just too bad their network isn’t as good as AT&T’s around here so I ended up switching away from them.

As stated in another thread, I work for a health insurance company. One of my co-workers called an elderly man in another state whose account was past due and he answered the phone very-out-of-it and she discovered while talking to him that he had fallen and hit his head on the ground. She had her manager call 911 while she stayed on the line with him talking until the ambulance came. They got in touch with him a few days later and he was doing much better and apparently very happy he was with us. The situation was featured on our corporate intranet as a kudos for customer service.

Also another elderly woman called in one day and was talking to a co-worker and she was going into diabetic shock because she didn’t have any money to go pick up her insulin and hadn’t taken it in days and another co-worker went through her account, figured out what pharmacy she uses, and called them and had an emergency delivery brought to her door. That one didn’t get featured but I thought it was equally impressive.

Southwest is awesome, I agree
USAA any department is also top notch.

ATT/Cingular has been very very good to me, I live in a fringe roaming area and get tons of international roaming charges- they assigned a person to call me and handle the adjustment every month. So, if you are patient, they can take care of you.

I agree. I have always had great service with USAA.

ATT DSL. They were very helpful at 1am in the morning while I was trying to set up my DSL line. (I had just flown in from D.C., and Internet service was deactivated because we didn’t feel like switching over at the time, and no one else in the family uses the Internet, much.) The problem took over an hour to solve, but the agent on the other line (who was definitely U.S.-based, had a very strong Southern accent) was extremely helpful.

Crutchfield.com technical support. The tech guy there talked me through an obscure car stereo installation procedure that I wouldn’t have figured out in a hundred years. Although other retailers could be cheaper, the support and installation freebies that come with a Crutchfield stereo are priceless.

Land’s End. The staff is always very helpful, never hurries you and is unfailingly polite and friendly.

I was going to mention Lands’ End, too.

LL Bean - they answer with a human on the first ring; they use your telephone number that is transmitted to them at call setup as a key to automatically bring up your account information; when they have to transfer your call, the account information is transferred with your call (no need to repeat the information with each person that you talk to.) They are very courteous and friendly … not like talking to a call center person but to your next door neighbor.

Ditto USAA and Lands’ End. We also have had good expereinces with LL Bean. DS1 lost the liner to his (new) winter coat a few years ago. I called Customer Service to see if I could buy a replacement liner – the rep said that they didn’t sell them separately, but would see what he could do. Within two weeks, they sent me a new one, gratis. I was stunned.

I’ve had great experience with my internet provider (used to be Southwestern Bell DSL, bought out by AT&T DSL). Both times I’ve called because my internet wasn’t working (horrors!), and the person on the other line (with what appeared to be an Indian accent both times), was extremely patient, knowledgeable and polite…and fixed my problem! :)

I second Southwest Airlines. Once I placed an order for a ticket on their website, and immediately realized I’d chosen the wrong date. I called their 800 #, spoke with a human immediately, explained what happened. I was asked if I’d like a refund or to apply the cost to another flight. When the customer service rep saw that I’d taken advantage of their “online only” special, she simply credited my charge card, and I went back online to correctly book the flight. It was easy, and without hassle.

Ditto Lands End. One bright morning the rep asked me if we’d gotten ‘that snow last night’ and it took me a moment to realize that she noticed I’m in the Chicago area which, as the snowflake flies, isn’t that far from them.
