D1 T&F questions

He is a strong student, probably will go pre-med or health sciences. He’s trying to combine his interest in biology with athletics so is exploring that. So, yes, academics are very important. He knows LSU is a reach (athletically). His current coach ran for LSU and is still connected and so he gets a lot of insight from him. If he could walk on, that would be ideal but again, not sure how realistic that is. Since we’re in state, his is eligible for TOPS (the scholarship program). My son feels he can achieve 4:15 and 1:52-54 next spring, he has been swimming and weight training on top of XC training this summer and his height has slowed down (he grew 4 inches in a year, is now 6’4" at 16 and had lots of aches and pains.) But not sure if these are realistic times for him, we will see. He was very consistent with his 800 last spring, never got below 1:59 so not sure how much he can drop.

That is very true. I am a teacher and have former student-athletes who burned out in college because of these schedules. Good point!

Wow 6’4” is very tall for an 800 runner. Has he ever tried hurdles or steeple chase? Or any field events like HJ? Could be a great 300/400 hurdler if he has good mobility.
