DAAD Rise 2015

Anyone apply? Anyone hear back? I’m anxiously waiting.

Same, no replies so far :frowning:

I’ve been in contact with a PhD student of one of the projects i applied for…what fields of study did y’all apply for??

Physics, and you? Did your phd student contact you first?

@Zaza122‌ I applied for biology and biomedical engineering projects. I was contacted by the Ph.D student first about two weeks ago. Tomorrow is the ranking deadline and we should start to hear back on accepted/rejected in about 4 weeks. Good luck everyone!

My friend was contacted by the Ph.D student this morning. I’m getting nervous and checking my email every hour since then. My GPA is really low compared to others. I applied for Mechanical Engineering internships.

For reference, what is considered a bad gpa? I’m not familiar with the 4 point scale because my school uses a 10 point scale. If I convert that to 4,it looks horrible. I have an A average though

I applied for three, got one interview, and now anxiously waiting.

@nikephoros‌ do you know what the PhD student said to your friend in the email? Did the PhD mention anything about your friend’s ranking?

Is it terrible that my online profile says that my application has not been sent to PhDs yet? Does that mean I’m out of the running or something?! I wonder what I did wrong.

meaning my “your application is complete and will be sent to PhD students” hasn’t lit up yet and is still in grey whereas everything else has a green check next to it

i would assume that that is not a good thing. you should have contacted the DAAD earlier but at this point since they have submitted their rankings it is probably too late

@sirkhan‌ sorry to hear that. One of my friends got the same problem, tho I’m not sure if she managed to get the thing cleared at the end. Based on some reddit posts, that may be due to some problems with your documents. But I can be wrong, so you should definitely contact DAAD as USCcocky23 has suggested.

@adam21 the PhD student just said that he got accepted and welcome him. He didn’t mention anythign about ranking.
@sirKhan the same friend of mien has the same issues. He emailed DAAD and got everything work.

That’s so cool! I wish other PhD would do that without having to wait for DAAD decisions

thats awesome! what project did he get accepted for?

@Gebraroest‌ I’m not sure how your GPA gonna translate into the selection process. But since all applicants will be ranked according to their GPAs during the process, DAAD must have a way to standardized all GPAs. I know this may sound unfair as not all schools use 4.00 system etc., but that’s just how DAAD does it. In the website, DAAD also mentions that other factors will come into play, but I’m not familiar with how they are taken into consideration.

Hello All, I wish everyone the best of luck as we enter the final round of the RISE decision process. Does anyone know of someone that was accepted without having an interview?
Thanks!

Also, @USCcocky23‌ I also applied for bioengineering and biology labs. Where were you looking?

I’ve also applied to biology labs, did you have any interviews yet?

I applied to biology projects. I had one interview. It went well but I was told it was very competitive - 7 other candidates for the one spot. Waiting anxiously.
