I also find it funny that Bristol is a “star.” She is not a star, but she is famous. Those are not quite the same.

^^^ You mean to tell me there are people who are voting for the worst and that’s what is keeping Bristol in the show? And who’s Cleetus and Jeb? Am I supposed to know these guys, or are they simply part of that VFTW group? swimcatsmom, where did you find this discussion?

if you google vote for the worst you will find the site. The sad thing is it is not even about supporting Bristol - they are just mocking her. I think “Cleetus and Jeb” are part of the mocking.

Bristol and Kirstie are the worst dancers of the lot, but at least Kirstie has personality…and Maks. Sometimes I’m not sure Bristol even has a pulse. What kind of producer would put her on television?

The kind of producer that wants her mommy front and center at every one of her performances.

A lot of the votes are popularity votes - not always for the best dancer. I have never voted but I would have voted for Carson Kressley because he was so entertaining! I wish he was dancing this year. It would be a much more fun!

I know the Olympic gold medalists always do well and get a lot of votes. I remember there was a huge uproar the year that Shawn beat Gilles - Gilles was clearly the better dancer.

What is “Bollywood?” I suppose it means a freestyle with a Bollywood costume & music?

The list of dances they had to pick from was ridiculous. Some of them got “real dances” like bolero or mambo, but Bollywood? Really? Broadway? Contemporary? while others got charleston, jitterbug.

I just hope Gilles and Peta get good music that they can do something with. I actually think Emmett has it the worst. Bolero is a beautiful, really difficult dance, like a rumba but slower.

I suppose we can be grateful they didn’t have polka as a choice.

Made me laugh!

Sorry to see Bristol stay…and sorry to see Helio go. But I was really holding my breath at the thought of Sabrina going home too early (again).

Oh my goodness. I did not get to watch the show last night but understand that they DID have Bollywood as a dance type for next week! I suggested that as a possibility way down-thread as a complete joke. YIKES. For the poster above who asked, Bollywood is a very style-specific, high energy dance made popular in India. Usually big production numbers with lots of dancers and colorful costumes. Thing is, this style of dance is just so darn HARD physically with very specific hand, arm and head positions; lots of deep knee bends, etc.

Here is a great example of the style from a couple of years ago on SYTYCD. It’s all girls, but you get the idea:

My other observation is that people love to hate on Bristol Pailin. I don’t get that. She seems to be trying hard—is she supposed to tell people not to vote for her? Is she somehow to blame for people voting for her?

If I was voting (and I have not been) I would vote for the person I want to see dance more, and obviously a lot of people want to see her.

I missed where they picked dances for next week- going to have to look up who got what.

I don’t hate Bristol Palin at all. I did not see the show when she was on it in a past season. This season has a LOT of very good dancers. And just watching the past two weeks, she just doesn’t seem in the same league as the others when it comes to dancing level. Perhaps in a regular season, she’d be OK though. And of course she is trying. She is not bad, but the level of the dance itself isn’t as difficult as the others are. I also thought her costume this time did not serve her well as it was hard to see her legs which I think are important to see in a dance.

As far as voting goes, I have not voted at all. But I would not vote based on the person I like the most but rather on the best dance performance and in that manner, I don’t see how anyone could think Bristol’s dance was better than the two who were voted off.

Again, she also doesn’t seem to fit the idea of a “star,” based on anything she has done, but rather is famous due to her mother.

The dancing styles, apparently, for next week:

Gilles and Peta Bollywood
Sabrina and Louis Disco
Shawn and Derek Mambo
Emmitt and Cheryl Bolero
Apolo and Karina Hip Hop
Melissa and Tony Jitterbug
Kelly and Val Contemporary
Helio and Chelsie Broadway
Kirstie and Maks Charleston
Bristol and Mark Rock and Roll

Although you can take out Helio now. :(

I don’t hate Bristol Palin. She’s just clearly the least-talented dancer and should have been gone this week. I may have to start voting again.

Personally, I think Gilles is going to nail Bollywood. It’s such a fun style that the crowd will love it.

I don’t hate Bristol. I think she is not a good dancer at all and she is not even fun to watch dance like some of the others who are less good (like Kirstie and Joey).

Thinking someone should be eliminated is not “hating on them”. I didn’t hate Pamela Anderson but really wanted her to go as she was terrible (and a bit cringemaking to watch). She was the right one to go first. I didn’t hate Drew but thought it right that he should go this time round. I didn’t hate Joey, actually thought he was a lot of fun, but thought it was right he should go. Don’t hate Kirstie, think she is a lot of fun, but when she goes I won’t have a problem with it. But to see Helio, who is so good, go and Bristol stay just makes the show a lot less fun to watch for me. Last night the 2 to go should have been between Drew, Kirstie, and Bristol.

How many dancers do they usually have in a season? There seem to be soooo many that they all blur into an unmemorable blob for me except for a few that stand out.

I’ve only been able to catch bits and pieces this season but isn’t Bristol the only one who was brought back who can’t dance? We all know why she was brought back but it is frustrating to see someone stick around who, for the second time, is getting lots of votes despite her dancing.

Youdon’tsay, I agree that Gilles is going to nail Bollywood, now that I have seen it on youtube and know what it looks like.

I think the only two who are going to have real problems with their dances are Emmitt with the bolero (Gilles would have knocked that one out of the park) and Kirstie with the jitterbug because it’s so fast, and she won’t be able to do the more strenuous moves (or at least Maks won’t be able to heave her around).

Bristol wasn’t the only one with less ability. I think Kirstie, Joey, and Bristol were clearly a notch below the others with Drew somewhere between the 2 groups.

I am so sickened to see no-talent Bristol stay and Helio go… At least he actually has a life and accomplishments, as opposed to being a career unwed teen mother on a reality show.

Bristol should be ashamed to take the floor next week. I’m surprised she wasn’t booed. Yeah, Kirstie isn’t the greatest dancer, but she’s also 61 and is a great performer. As much as I love Kirstie and Maks, I could have lived with them going instead of Drew and Anna, who did not deserve it.

And I see that the judges have yet again been instructed to throw the contest to Shawn Johnson, who did a lot of tricks but very little quickstep in a cute performance. I didn’t like Kelly Monaco the first time out. This time she is really impressing me.

I agree with Consolation, didn’t think Shawn and Derek’s Quickstep was the highlight dance of Monday night. I also thought Carrie Ann was somewhat harsh on Sabrina and Louie for not putting a unique twist on their routine. All Emmitt did to show individuality, for example, was to slide under Cheryl’s legs at the very end of a lackluster performance. I actually liked Melissa and Tony on Monday night and thought they were worthy of the repeat performance nod.

If you want an “awwww” moment…last night when they showed the highlights of each couple’s Monday night dance, they showed Val and Kellie coming off the stage after their paso, which I thought was terrific, BTW. Val said something to the effect of, “Thank you for giving me that moment.” Kellie was speechless. I thought that was so sweet. I really like Kellie this time around.

tango14, Kelly and Val certainly deserved to dance an encore performance of their Paso. I thought she was terrific during the inaugural season of DWTS.
