Dancing With the Stars....here we go again

Jack is as much of a star as Snookie is (not much). Both famous for reality TV. Amber is one of the stars on GLEE, which is a current and very popular show. Perhaps out of your demographic, but still is a very popular show. She is very talented both in singing and acting.

I find DWTS draws a lot of people who’s stardom has passed and brings them back to current. The fact that Amber is currently on a hit show is unusual.

Brant is also on a current show: Pretty Little Liars I don’t watch it, but it is a current show.

Corbin has been on broadway, it showed last night he was professionally trained in dance. I put him in the category of previous professionals like that pussycat doll girl.

Typically, I haven’t heard of at least half of these “stars” beforehand!

Exactly.

Corbin got his big break in the High School Musical movies. He starred on Broadway as Usnavi in In the Heights (who didn’t dance, but he certainly did in HSM). My D saw him in In the Heights (she had seen a previous Broadway Usnavi) and said he was very good.

I was impressed that Corbin got into Stanford. Then I thought that if he is already doing DWTS, maybe he should give Stanford a shot.

High School Musical, which Corbin was in, won an Emmy for Outstanding Choreography. I remember hearing at the time the movie was popular that the filmmakers were aiming for perfection in the dance numbers. It shows. I was a huge fan of the movie (my son was a young teen at the time, so I was tuned in to it). Also, Corbin’s bio on-line says he took jazz and ballet at age 4! And Debbie Allen, apparently was his teacher, and she’s taught and choreographed some of the best.

parentofpeople is correct, this show never was about the A-list celebrities. It was more tongue-in-cheek and about washed up celebrities using this as a vehicle to jump start their stalled careers. It also appeals to an older audience. I’m in my 50s, there aren’t any 20 or 30 somethings at work that watch the show, just us older gals.

That said, I’m not sure what some of you watch on TV if you haven’t heard of many of these people from this or past seasons. They pick from a variety of backgrounds: TV, sports, music, comedy, and the unusual like Bill Nye, Penn Jillette the magician and Steve Wozniak. There are always a couple I don’t know, but that’s okay. I didn’t know JR Martinez and he won the whole thing!

Jack has a famous father. Snooki doesn’t. The only claim to fame Rob Kardashian and Kate Goslin as well as Melissa Ryecroft from the Bachelor have are reality shows. Yet Melissa was well deserving of the Grand Champion mirror ball the season she won.

I hadn’t heard of Amber because I have never seen Glee. Ditto for Brant in Pretty Little Liars and Corbin for High School Musical movies or the Heights on Broadway. Never watched Jersey Shore but had heard of Snooki.

I watch a lot of CNN so at least I know the capital city of Canada…

OK, this is my reminder to watch tonight!

This may be unpopular, but Bill has really won me over. He is obviously trying so hard. It is human nature to try to appear to not care or to not be taking something seriously that one is not good at. But Bill is showing his vulnerability before millions Good for him!

I missed most of the show but caught Amber’s freestyle. HOLY COW. That is up there with my top 3 dances of all seasons. I loved that even Derek was sweaty after that one.

I was disappointed 2 weeks ago when really good dancers started to be eliminated in favor of Leah & Bill, but I think the final 4 are all winners (in different ways.) I really enjoyed tonight’s show!

The freestyle dances seem so much better this season than in the past. Really polished.

Jack certainly is the Most Improved.

I did enjoy the freestyles, to my surprise. Loved the Indian Jones theme for Bill, and that Emma went all out since it was her first finals dance. She was the best thing to come out of this season.

I loved Jack & Cheryl’s dance. It was entertaining with a variety of dancing.

Corbin’s was okay, but I am meh on the Michael Jackson moves, it’s not original so I take of points for that and I almost get tired of MJ references in everything.

Amber’s freedance dance, to me, was also meh. It seemed like the hand movements were to take it easy on her knees, so she can rest up tonight and pull out all the stops for the grand finale. I remember I liked her first dance, but can’t really remember what it was right now!

Who saw Wayne Newton and some blonde beside him in the audience? Talk about a Twilight Zone episode! With all the plastic surgery, they looked spooky, faces pulled so tight they looked not human!

Just watched last night’s episode on Hulu. I was blown away by Jack’s freestyle. Most Improved is putting it mildly! What struck me about Amber’s was that it was all about HER, not about her being supported by Derek. I don’t recall ever seeing that on DWTS before. Corbin and Karina were very good, but I think he’s a ringer, so I tend to discount what he does. (I also think he was mean in his choice for Jack in the final dance.)

I was so impressed by Amber and Jack last night…Jack’s was ALL about the dance, but Amber’s was all about Amber Dancing. And she did, indeed, hold her own with all the professional guys surrounding her. I voted for her all around. Though I would be really happy to see Jack win because he is just so genuine and cute.

I also think Corbin is a ringer…and I am tired of seeing him shirtless.

Not tired of seeing Corbin shirtless. He has grown up to be a fine looking man.

Yay! So pleased with the results!

I’m not at all surprised. It seemed all indications pointed in that direction, imo.

Also pleased!

Derick has a way of getting his partner over the finish line. I think with a different partner, Corbin could have won.

I think Karina is good, but Derek and Cheryl are like the Dance Whisperers.
