Dancing With the Stars....here we go again

churchmusicmom, I can’t believe you can’t read my mind.

By least likable/unpopular, I meant that they weren’t getting the votes, and the scoring only goes so far. Even in this thread and others before it, people speak negatively of Mark, so he is not a vote draw, unlike Derek or Max or Tony or Cheryl or Julianne, who have become stars in their own rights and garner votes irregardless of their partners. I am not into the Hunger Games, but it made a lot of money at the box office, so, in a way, I’m surprised she didn’t last a little longer. Chris is just off The Bachelor, and he was really popular. Robert is on Shark Tank, which is a hit. Both those shows are on ABC, so it makes sense they’d do well an ABC reality show. I think, technically, Willow was better than both Chris and Robert, though, really, not THAT much better. And Mark kept putting her in dance “productions” that didn’t allow her, IMO, to connect to the audience in the way Chris and Robert have. Mark was all about costuming and doing something “different” and out there rather than enabling Willow to present herself. Mark just doesn’t seem to get that part of the competition, the need to be likable and not just a good dancer.

^^^ that! He doesn’t let them show THEIR personality through the dance. I have ended up rooting for people who I didn’t know from Adam before the show because their style and personality came through. He makes it all about his vision.

I agree. The issue with Mark is that it’s always about him. Remember the comment Julianne made last year about him? Funny thing is his dad seemed to be the same way when he was on the show. He puts the theatrics ahead of his “star”.

I’ll call him the Christine Aguilera of DWTS…lol

DWTS has an older audience, that’s why Robert and the bachelor get viewer votes that bypass Willow whos fans are younger. A few seasons back, Mark seemed to do better with his partner until Bristol put him over the edge and now it monkey, rabbit and ninja get ups.

The show was way too short last night! All those stars packed in there and ABC takes the cheap route and allots just an hour for the anniversary. Loved the ever classy Patti LaBelle’s number, the football players dance and the magnetic and mesmerizing Maks and Meryl.

Kelly Monaco actually seems better now than she was when she won. Funny the runner up guy, I forget his name, was so po’d about the whole thing he did the rematch and won…and they still consider her the winner. But he’s never been on the show again. There wasn’t an ounce a fat on that one. I really should follow someone like her around one day and see what she eats and how she exercises.

I agree that I could have done 2 hours as well.

There should really be a rule about never covering your partner’s face with a mask (except maybe a small Zorro or Carnival mask).

Rumer’s first dance and Nastia’s second were fabulous.

Here’s what made Nastia trio dance so successful. She danced with each separately, then came together at the end. The guys all looked overpowered by the two women when trying to keep them in hold. The guys look so much better when they’re dancing alongside the women.

OK, I feel anti-patriotic saying it, but Noah’s time has come.

The trio dances are always a favorite of mine. Tonight’s were okay but Robert and the bachelor couldn’t handle two women. And ever since Derek used some fancy hand movements to compensate for Amber Riley’s bad knees, other professionals use the technique too, and I’m weary of it, as in the case of Noah this week. Rumor’s didn’t do much for me. I think I liked Nastia’s solo and Riker’s trio best for the evening. Riker cracks me up. Robert seems like a cartoon out there now. Witney’s trio dance too much like last season’s with Alfonso.

Julianne: fabulous hair and gown. Carrie Ann also looking smashing. Erin: her best hair ever. The white gown was great from the front but why the side cut outs so her spanx showed? Thought that was weird.

I thought that was actually part of the dress, no?

No big surprises tonight, I think. I enjoyed getting to see Maddie Z and Shaping Sound dance…

This has turned in to a fun season!

Yeah, I think these eliminations were the correct ones, though I’m sad to see them go.

Yes, the eliminations were fitting. I liked Maddie’s dance to Josh Grobans singing, too, very lovely. Not much else I watch on Tuesday nite, so the show wasn’t bad.

I thought Josh G sounded awful… Like the song was in a higher key than he expected, or his throat was closing from an allergy attack.
Who do you think will go before the finals? Assuming Noah has the fan base to stay on, who would go? Riker, Nastia and Rumer are all so good. Maybe next Monday I should actually vote.

As expected, Nastia is bringing all the goods to the dance floor now that it really counts. At times, Derek’s choreography takes a celebrity to the top. As beautiful as her routines can be, I still feel something missing there. I’m also not sold yet on Rumor. I didn’t think her trio dance was anything special. If Riker wows us with some exceptional routines he could go to the top. He sort of reminds me of Donald Driver who wasn’t the best technical dancer but had the charisma and was a wonderful surprise winner. While Noah may be a sentimental favorite for some, the intensity of the routines necessary in the semifinals may be too much for hiim and the judges will score him low, knowing the others in the race are better.

It all boils down to the semifinal and free style final dances, doesn’t it?

Looking forward to seeing Riker in the freestyle!

Team Rumer!

Noah should be next to go.

Since when is this show a “reality TV” show? It’s well rehearsed live TV.

Noah needs to go- doing a fantastic job of working with his limitations does not mean he can do as well as the remaining stars. His presence on the show likely did wonders for him and helped many others with similar disabilities. The finalists need to be the best dancers, not sympathy/patriotism (how that can be linked to voting for him doesn’t make sense to me, but misplaced patriotism is another topic) performers.

I don’t get why Riker isn’t getting the votes to stay out of the bottom. Does he or his partner Allison score low on the “likeability index”? Is Allison not connecting with viewers and voters? Allison’s husband Twitch was one of the most popular dancers to ever appear on SYTYCD and still continues to be a hit when he returns. I would think she would be popular based on that fact alone. Is it because Riker is not a more refined ballroom dancer? Not sure it’s because he’s not well known. Heck, Nastia is not that well known, unless you follow gymnastics or are into sports in great detail.
