Anybody else old enough to remember this? I was a REALLY good kid, and I remember the biggest rule I ever broke was going to a friends house after school to watch this before going home. I hear Johnny Depp will be in a remake.

I remember watching this in junior high at the neighbor’s house and loving it. Johnny Depp would be great! I’ll have to read up on the plans for a remake!

My DH is only one year older than I am, but he totally remembers Dark Shadows and I had never heard of it until we had been married several years. He loved huddling in the TV room with his teen sister and watching. He lived in a city with lots of channels and long dark winters.
I don’t remember watching anything but “Wonderful World of Disney” before I was about 10. Lived in a sunbelt small town with 2 channels available. We were out rollerskating with our clamp-on skates after school until dinner time.
Thanks for the nostalgia trip!

I loved Dark Shadows!! My mom didn’t want me to watch it but my grandmother would let me as long as I didn’t say anythig to my mom
I think a remake with Johnny Depp would be awesome!!

Forget Twilight! That show was a classic! ( I was talking to my D about Twilight and remembered OUR generation’s vampire. )

I would so love a Dark Shadows with Johnny Depp!

I watched Dark Shadows and so did my entire sixth grade class. It was a big topic of conversation at lunchtime!

I could never get the TV as my mom was watching “As the world turns” and the Merv Griffin show.

Great, just what the world needs. Another lousy movie remake. Can’t someone in Hollywood come up with an original idea and let these classic old shows rest in piece?

This was my favorite show! Do you remember how they were always going back and forth in time, so the same actors were playing different characters? And Joan Bennett, the actress who played Elizabeth Collins, would sometimes flub her lines, or get forget the name of the character she was addressing? And of course, who could forget that great love triangle between Barnabas,Josette and Angelique? Thanks for reminding me!

There was a thread discussion about Dark Shadows a while back. I’ll see if I can find it. Great show!!

(the conversation was in the Sinners alley thread, around post # 10,477. Discussion of Jonathan Frid too)

at one time, i had the dark shadows board game. i think it is still somewhere at my mom’s!

I loved Dark Shadows! I think my mom made a half hearted attempt to ban it, Our priest may have denounced it! It just made it all the more appealing.

Liked it, but came to it late so I didn’t know a lot of the story.

Oh I loved “Dark Shadows”! We would watch on summer afternoons with the curtains drawn and the lights off. And my friends and I would walk past mirrors and check to make sure we still had reflections. I can still remember the theme song even now.

It was really big at our house. My Mom was the biggest fan and even went to some of those conventions that come to town with all the fans buying and selling memorabilia, some of the stars making appearances, etc. I had to race home after school to see it, but I usually made it home in time.

I have great memories of watching Dark Shadows with my bed-ridden sister. Barnabas- OOOOHHH!!!

Count me in among the elementary school kids who rushed home to watch Dark Shadows at 4 o’clock.

I remember that NBC TV did a remake in the 1980s with Ben Cross (Chariots of Fire, Stark Trek 2010). A so-so effort. And there was the Dark Shadows theatrical movie with the TV cast back in the 1970s.

I got to meet the late Jonathan Frid at a community event years ago, when the show was all but forgotten. He was very gracious and was quite surprised that anyone remembered him. And I called into a radio program and talked to David Selby (Quentin Collins) and that was fun for a fan like me. I can still hear the music from Selby’s earlier appearances in the TV series, when he was just a sinister laughing apparition in a mirror. Scary.

I hope this report of a new Johnny Depp movie isn’t vaporware.

Oh my sister and I loved that show. We used to rush home from school just to watch it. Barnabas and Angelique were our favorites. The show was on TV Land (i think) in the morning several years ago…I remember one of my daughters was home sick with mono and she and I would watch it. I would love to see a remake!

Oh, I looooooved David Selby. i can remember recording episodes of the show on my cassette recorder and taking them to school so we could listen to them again at recess. And I always thought I would name my children Quentin and Barnabas. Probably a good thing I outgrew that.
