I think I know the answer to my question, but it was recommended that I post here to confirm. My daughter’s school is eligible to nominate for the Jefferson and has done so applying some as yet unknown criteria. Are there any other avenues for a student from such a school to be considered? It appears to me that there is not. It also appears, that lacking minority, first generation, or financial need factors, there are no other merit-based scholarship at UVA.

Thanks for your unput.

We are permitted to nominate “at large” candidates to the Jefferson Scholars Foundation.

The bulk of financial aid at UVA goes to students from low income families, but there are some scholarships that aren’t need-based. Those are, like the Jefferson, administered by the alumni association. A quick visit to their website will get you a list.

Thanks for the reply. We’ll keep looking for things that fit her profile. I’m glad to hear there are at least some at large nominations for Jefferson.

Your participation on this forum is helpful. Thanks you for taking the time to do it.

If you are looking for more scholarship information consider www.fastweb.com

Many students know about “fastweb” scholarships so if your school has a career center they will probably know about lesser known scholarships.
