I have been a 3.98 student so far and just like a lot of my friends, i would like to take it a little easy during the final semester. how much slacking would be acceptable? if i let my grades drop to B+s in about 6 of my 7 classes, would it be okay?

Please, no rude responses..I would appreciate constructive responses/criticisms.

I’m not someone I’d call ‘knowledgeable’, however I do follow Dean J’s blog which has a wealth of information. There is a ‘search’ feature where you can see if she has previously addressed a concern. This is link to an entry from March 5, 2008. I am confident the information is still valid. If you haven’t subscribed to 'Notes from Peabody" I would highly recommend it. Dean J is wonderful about updating anxious applicants about the process. It’s a great inside look at what really goes on in admissions…and how can you not love CavDog?! :)

Make sure you read the follow up comments where people ‘push’ for a more specific answer. Dean J makes it pretty clear how they view this about three-quarter’s of the way down.

With 22-23,000 applicants for UVa there is always someone else to take your place that did not slack off. Remember this for not only UVa, but for all of your other schools. This includes your safeties. Being a senior is a great time for all of you, but as Dean J as said in her Blog stay focused. I have seen enough seniors slack off and then not understand how they were denied or waitlisted admission to several schools, even safeties.

thanks for the wisdom guys…i really shouldn’t plan on slacking off…i don’t know what got me this morning.

on a side note, i did not know my parents were following my profile…as soon as i got home they started talking about my future and slacking off…i guess i’ll have to be more careful from now…haha

Never underestimate your parents. We know far more than you think we do. We simply choose to take a deep breath on some things, and address the things that really matter. Your parents obviously thought this was one worth weighing in on, giving you a ‘gentle’ reminder that you’ve worked hard for 3.5yrs and you don’t graduate until June. :)

Actually i would like to input that getting B+'s is more than acceptable, they are not going to take back your application for getting B+'s that’d be the most ridiculous thing i ever head. I no many kids who got c’s senior year, went to well known college, and never had a problem. At a large school like UVA they will not have time to reject some1 for B+'s, D’s are a different story, but B+'s are fine…I wouldn’t recommend slacking for various reasons, but lets be realistic, your not getting rejected for any type of b’s…
