I’m a high school freshman and I do DECA and speech. I was offered the opportunity to become a DECA officer, however, that means I have to quit speech because both required classes in the same slot. I can do DECA and speech together if I don’t become an officer, but I am very passionate about DECA. However, I heard that colleges like speech and debate more and I’m good at it, so I don’t know if quitting after one year will reflect badly on me. On the other hand, if I become an officer I’ll have experience. What do I do?
Colleges want to see you involved in what you like, not what they want. You’re better off choosing something you like over something that “looks good” on a piece of paper.
