December 2008 sat

lol! guess what. i aint seen a single of your questions in mine. no cube no emerson no thoreau no privacy no electronics no uncouth no cursory no korean mum. go figure.

but i had 4 cr sections, 2 of them with 8 vocab. and they were consecutive, like section 4 and 5. totally blew my brains out cr-ing for 50 arduous minutes. grahhh. i hope section 5 is the research one cuz i think i got two questions wrong in these. oh please…

That privacy passage was impossible. I thought the rest of the test was easy, then got to that one and wanted to die. I omitted 3 and so far ive gotten 2 wrong. There goes my score :(

What did everyone get for the math one that asked “which of the three angles must be the same as angle three”.

That one kind of threw me for a loop, because I kept ignoring the FIGURE IS NOT DRAWN TO SCALE thing.

I think I ended up putting 1 and 2? I think that was choice D.

I originally thought I got about a 2300, but everyone seems like they had a hard time with it, so maybe a 2400 (i hope).

Also, will the seventh grade test takers make the curve any easier? There were tons of little kids doing it for the TIp program at my testing site.

So far, I think I only missed one in reading, maybe the aforementioned math question, and maybe a couple of writing (12 essay, though).

i got a 2200 last time (sophomore year). Do you think I have any shot at a 2350+ this year?

I and many other people I know thought the answer to that angle question was ONLY
angle 1 . But who knows.

I only got angle 1. I hope that’s right

there was this easy question which said how many possibilites for 6 people playing tournaments against 2 other people…my friend got 15 but i got 12…argh i hope i didnt mess up on this one =O

no, it was each person played every other person twice, the answer was 30

haha, desi_chick, you just made my day! Sorry to take the **** out of you, but I’m quite sure the answer to this easy question was 30 rather than 12. Sorry!

math:
yeah, for the angles question, i got “Only Angle 1”
for the parallelogram area question, i got “1360” (solved it using angles+sin)
for the tournament question i got “30” as well.
for the distance question, did you guys get .9? and the one after that was 9?

critical reading:
i know i got an experimental cr because i had 4 cr sections. i hope it was the first one, it was about social groups, and how individuals tend to join the groups? it was really hard and some of the questions didn’t make sense, nor did the passage.
also, the question about what professor Mo’s politeness showed, was that he was being “overly courteous to mock him” right? or no? i wasn’t sure what enmity meant, but it sounded bad because of the “en” and “mit”. not sure though.

writing:
i usually do well in writing, but i thought it was pretty hard this time.
what did you guys get for the last spot the error question? it was like “That somethingsomethingsomething, showed something had shrunk”. i was really confused and at first i thought the answer was “That” because it was an inverted sentence, but then i brought it down between “had shrunk” and no error. i think it was had shrunk, because it should have been “has shrunk”, but i put no error. not good.
also, the last question on the writing section about “what could best be added to the second paragraph”, was it “explanation of why readymades could be appealing” ?

dammit!

I only determined that it was for sure angle 1, but at the last second I changed it. There goes my perfect score in math.

GAH! that ****es me off soooooooooo much!

Any chance that a minus one in math could still be an 800???

and yeah the tournament was 30.

And what is teh deal with the parallelogram question?

Area is base times height, and it formed a 30-60-90. I don’t think it gets much simpler than that, but maybe i missed something.

In the given form it was “has shrunk.” I picked this as the error because I though it should have been “had shrunk.”

Oh my, you guys are overwhelming me so much, I’m new to the forum!

Lol, but thankfully, for the most part, I’ve gotten the same answers as many of you, which is quite encouraging.

I’ve just one question…I don’t know if we have the same questions, but in one of my earlier W sections there was something to do with someone’s books being something more than Mary (I’m just making up the content and probably confusing you guys, sorry!). But, yeah, what was the answer to that one?

The two I had it down to was something like, “more than that of Mary’s.” and “more than Mary’s.” Which one was it?

Hahaha, I’ve just concluded that I really need to work on posting more cohesive posts!

hopefull 1992: what did you get for the parallelogram one? you break the 150degress into 90+60. so 40cos(60)=h hbase = 2068 = 1360. or you can just do special triangle ration to get h. right?

lolcats4: ooh i see i see. hmm, so is “has shrunk” wrong? it seems right now that i’m thinking about it because its present tense. had shrunk would imply that the act of the thieves stealing the junk and trying to sell was in the past, which im not sure is true?

critical reading:
did you guys get “deplorable” for the way the scientists presented their presentation?
and, was it “something… prohpetic” for the one about someone predicting the future?

Critical Reading: I thought it was “has shrunk” and thus put “No Error”, but I’m not totally sure as I don’t really remember the entire question. Does someone remember it word for word?

naw, I don’t remember it word for word. but i think it was like
“That the robbers were unable to sell the goods smuggled from Sicily proved that the market for stolen antiques has shrunk” No error.

or something like that. yeah i thought it was “has shrunk” as well, though “had shrunk” sounds correct too (but it changes the meaning right?)

Yeah, it does change the meaning, so I’m guessing “no error” is correct. Good. I really hope to get an 800 on CR and W.

But do you remember the earlier question I was talking about, comparing Pam’s books to Mary’s books? haha. What did you put for that one.

Yeh even though I picked has shrunk I’m pretty sure it was no error. I really need a high essay score to make up for missing this one…I neeeeeed the 800

dpattzlover:
sorry didn’t see your post. i don’t remember that question in particular. but in general when comparing things it should be “pam’s book are better than those of mary”, but if this isn’t a choice sometimes (its weird, because its not 100% consistent), then it’s “pam’s book are better than mary’s (books)”.
haha sorry, i don’t remember that question in particular.

math:
what was the answer to the question that was “when n is divided by a number the remainder is 5. what is the remainder when n^2 is divided by the number?”
i think i put 4, but i was totally not sure.

i got 4 by finding two numbers that satisfied the first part. 12 and 7 do that, where n= 12, and the number =7.
so 12/7 = 1 r5. and 144/7 = 20 r4 yeah?

Ownage!

Yeah, I know the rule, but was a bit thrown off because it said “than THAT of Pam” instead of those of Pam, so I put “than Mary’s (books)”. Okay, cool.

As for the math problem, I think it was 4. I don’t totally remember the problem, but I do think it was 4 and I was quite sure of my answer when I was doing the problem, so that’s great as well!
