Deciding between UNC / Emory / BS-MD Augusta

My daughter wants to pursue Pre-med and Public Health, and has been accepted to the following:

  • UNC Chapel Hill - Honors Carolina, Accelerated Research, and Assured program in Nutrition and env Health Science (In-state)
  • Emory University - Oxford College Dean Scholarship - 2 years at Oxford campus and 2 years at Emory campus
  • 7 year BS-MD program with Augusta University and Medical College of GA - OOS Presidential Scholarship, so in-state tuition.

She would appreciate any insight into the experience and opportunities with these programs, as she is trying to weigh in the pros and cons, with costs being about the same for these.

Most applicants to medical schools aren’t accepted. At Augusta, you already have med school acceptance AND you’re done in 7 years instead if 8, saving a year’s tuition. Take it.

BS/MD Program Information describes the requirements at the Augusta program. Note the college GPA requirement – must be at least 3.7 overall and in science/math by the last year before medical school. Student must major in cell and molecular biology as an undergraduate.
