Decision is in!!

hokay…i got deferred…apparently almost a month ago…my parents decided to wait to tell me until i had a couple of acceptances in to cushion the blow…i kind of wish i had known…but i get where they were coming from…

I called last friday to ask what was happening ( I applied ER and still no response), they said it was in the mail. I still have gotten nothing.

In the mail means deferall? Right?

I have a 3.7 UW and 1950 SAT, national awards…

^^ yes that’s definitely a deferral.

right now, i feel glad i’m in-state…

haha why? Did you get in? I’m not so sure that I am happy to be in state, yet, because I havnt gotten accepted…but once i do ill be feeling good about being in-state too!

I don’t think my stats were that worthy of the U of M. I put a lot of effort into my essays and constantly revised them and I think those were what got me in.

SATs highest in one sitting: 2200
UM GPA: 3.65ish

what is the academic profile for the guys on the fb team?

A couple of things:

Legacy status isn’t the boost that some alums think or hope it is. With such a large body of alumnae on the globe, there are a lot of legacy apps.

It is not the case that U-M “didn’t get enough” or “fell short” of Early Response apps. If only. On the other hand, neither is it defensible that U-M wasn’t “in any way” adequately prepared for the ER rush. The paperless review process helped a lot, as did some weeks where the staff pretty much shut down and did nothing but evaluate and review!

I don’t know what the reps meant by saying that applicants who were otherwise qualified ER candidates were not read as ER candidates because of counselors being “too busy.” That should not be the case. On the contrary, on campus we were told that some applicants whose materials were received after the deadline were still counted as ER so they would not be penalized by late mail.

What was not well understood, perhaps, was that “defer” was always considered one of the decisions that students might receive as ER candidates.

And yes, some strong applicants were deferred. That is owing to the fact that it’s been a very strong year thus far. Great applicants get deferred every year, and this year will be no different. Being deferred does mean that U-M loses some great candidates who are turned off by the process or who feel for their own peace of mind they need to commit somewhere else. It’s unfortunate, but something that happens, and U-M has to pay that price each year. There are fortunately also good students who say yes once the acceptance comes.

would anyone here have an idea when i should be getting a decision? they received my app and forms 11/29, but when i call admissions, i get answers varying from 4 to 12 weeks =/

I was told about 2 weeks ago that they are running between 8-10 weeks, this came directly from the admissions office so sit tight and good luck to you.

I got into the HOnors College!

See my stats profile

Congratulations!! How long did it take from your appl.being complete to finding out? Did you find out via wolverine access or got something in the mail or got an email or all the above? ;)

I get a mail, after I got in to the LSA, I got an offer to join the honors college, i wrote my essay and 1.5 weeks later I got a letter in the mail saying, “Congratulations, you have been admitted to the Umich Honors College…”:D

Decisions are in today… I got in, I think they put up the link on wolverine at 12:00 but…

COE
gpa: 3.8
SAT: 2020
ACT:29

oh yeah, they said I received everything 11/28 so good luck to everyone that applied then…

how bad is it to send an application around today or tomorrow, so close to the Feb 1 deadline?

It is a small number of decisions released this week.

molliemellow: well they will still consider you, but it will def be prime time competition-wise.

congrats to all though!
