Decision is in!!

dspencer: I applied at the end of january too, and I got my acceptance last week. an anomaly, I would suppose, but I’m excited anyhow.

i got the deferral letter and it says" my application is deferred for final decision until a later date"

what does that mean ?

We’ll get back to ya in April dude.

for all who got some sort of decision:

did the notification come in the form or email, online status, mail, or all?

Acceptances usually come by email, online status first then mail

Rejections/Deferrals come only by mail, so there will be no “view decision” link if you get rejected or deferred

so if i turned in my app on jan30 and my online status hasn’t changed, does that most likely mean i’m rejected/deferred or just that they haven’t looked through my file yet?

I’m guessing they’re still reviewing your application. It seems like most of the people who applied late in January haven’t heard anything yet.

Michigan DEFINITELY cares about courseload. Did you take APs/Honors? If so, no clue why you were deferred, maybe they thought essays could be better due to your obvious high intelligence level. You also probably applied much later than you should have, any apps in after December are really at an enormous disadvantage.

dspencer: I’d guess April 1st or so, probably close to their decision deadline release-date.

All, I was admitted in November, not sure if they are still doing it the same way, though I’d assume they would be.

It’s very possible they just haven’t reviewed you yet, but even so, you applied so late in the process that unless you’re stats are extraordinary and/or you are extremely unique/gifted in another way, you have a very good chance of being waitlisted/rejected.

on their website it says “The review process typically takes 12 to 14 weeks”… true/untrue?

depends…a few ppl on this forum received their notification within a month or so…

learnmestuff, why is it a disadvantage to submit apps after december?

Rolling admissions… :(

Happy news…D accepted today!!!
Was deferred ER, she’s very excited!

Oh, that’s really exciting! I am from south Florida as well, and was also deferred. Would you mind if I asked what you did after finding out about the deferral/what her stats were?

Also, did you receive an email or did you just randomly check the status online?

Because most of the spots have been taken up all ready (70% of the frosh admits had already been admitted by mid-Jan, according to a source in admissions. Thus, you are competing for 30% of the available spots).

So I got deffered a week ago. Do you guys think I have a chance of
getting in later?

3.75
1390/1600
OOS
decent ec’s, stellar rec’s, decent essays
black (probably doesnt matter anyway)

I think you have a chance.

asd;fijasef no decision yet. I hate myself for applying Jan 29th.

i’m in the same boat. if i knew 70% of spots were already taken i would have applied in june =(

She received an email last night saying she was accepted (I heard of it by the gleeful yell emanating from her room).

She did send a letter with her midyear transcripts updating them on her activities since she applied. Generally her stats are in the OOS low-midrange for Michigan, but she had very strong 1st semester senior grades with very challenging courses. She has also received very high A’s from college courses she’s taken while in high school. But my daughter also had special circumstances (serious illness…thankfully fine now) that had affected her high school grades. I give U Michigan lots of credit for truly looking at her application holistically.

Good luck to those still waiting!

I haven’t heard anything from Michigan yet…
When does the rejection letters come in mail?

Has anyone received any decisions lately? I’m getting nervous…
