Decisions Are Up!

groylj2 - Yikes, sorry to hear that with your excellent stats. What was your major? What were those SAT II’s? Out of state?

Accepted :)

UC GPA: 4.1 ish?
SATs: 2060
SAT 2s: 750/720

Essays- Well written imo

Anyone know my shot at Berk or LA?

my SAT subject test scores arent very high…620 and 650 (for us history and math 2) :frowning:
do you think thats going to affect me? im hoping they’ll see my extra curriculars, grades, and essays too

Congrats 07to11 :)

I’ll bet you that you get into Berk and LA!

thanks rdviper1!! good luck to you with LA, I’m sure you can get in! :D

You have good stats, 07to11, and a pretty decent shot at Cal/UCLA. Are you going into an impacted major? The only possible weakness could be low SAT I, but that could be a non-issue if you aren’t going into an impacted major.

haha thanks azure… I’m not totally sure about whether my majors are impacted, though i think they might be… I’m doing Biochem in both. I actually think I would take UCSD over both because it seems to fit me better, but I was wondering just incase I do get in. My 2nd choice school is really Cornell but I have sort of lost hope on that one.

does anyone know what the cutoff score was this year?

i really dont understand SD admissions.

you guys that were rejected, i feel for you. i was so confident i was going to get in, considering that my scores are way way above average, and i have excellent ECs, ETC ETC.

UCSD’s admission’s process is a joke

My friend got int oos with less than minimum. hmmmmmmm…sweet though.

I might as well have gotten rejected! I didn’t get any scholarships from SD, so I’m not going.

AH! pagEL60! give me your spot! i would go even if they made me pay double :(

accepted WOOHOO!
OOS
uw GPA: 4.0
SAT: 1810
Eleanor Roosevelt
Major: International Studies- History

"Anarkii, if you were actually accepted to UCSD, would you have gone? Either you wouldn’t have, or you didn’t transmit that thought across to the UCSD admissions officers in your essay well enough. Apparently a lot of well/overqualified people on this forum were rejected, and I can safely say that probably 2/3rds of them wouldn’t have gone to UCSD even if they were accepted. Big blow to the academic ego? Yeah, it is. Big deal in the grand scheme of things in light of their applications? Probably not.

If UCSD were to accept all over-qualified applicants, their admissions percentage could do one of two things, both of which are undesirable.

1) It could cause the admissions percentage to go up. This would cause people to doubt the selectivity of the school, and cause fewer people to consider it prestigious.

2) It could cause the requisite point total to go up. This would be the most dangerous, because it would cause many otherwise qualified students who actually would go to UCSD to be denied admission, and a bunch of people who used UCSD as a safety to be admitted, but obviously not go. The selectivity of the school goes up, but fewer people who would actually go would go. Just look at Johns Hopkins. The school is incredible, and the selectivity is high, but the yield is a dismal 33% because a lot of people probably use it as a fallback if they don’t get into Ivy Leagues.

Either scenario could be what admissions officers are trying to avoid, and certainly not without reason."

Well said. We all know that UCSD’s admissions has been very awkward this time around, and that many of us overqualified applicants haven’t been accepted, while many other have. Congratulations to those accepted and for us who haven’t, let’s move on. Our rejections may be due to a number of causes, but we can’t compare ourselves to those with lower stats to justify ourselves. It may be because of our majors, the admission officers’ moods, or sheer fate. Just hang in there guys.

haha nice hawaii06, you’ve applied to the right college  we have mmw which is basically learning about how the modern world/culture came to be by looking back on international history (thus ‘making of the modern world’ lol). we’re also the only college that has the international house.

azure-- instate and english major. white female. i think its hilarious. SAT 2’s were lit and math 2c

groylj2, i completely understand how you feel. my stats were similar to yours and i was also rejected.

i really dont understand how ucsd could let so many potential great students go. this is really ridiculous

gogogo-- i’d like to think they know we’ll be accepted to better schools and dont want to bother wasting a spot at their school on people like us. i honestly could give a crap about UCSD and think they’re stupid for doing this. it’s actually quite humorous that they are being so strategic about their stupid admissions.

yeah, but i really had my heart set for UCSD. i would have rejected CAL and LA for it. i really liked their campus and bio program.

but oh well this is just undergrad. its grad school that really counts right?

i believe that UCSD thinks too highly of itself. their points system is flawed and yet they make it out to be like its the best darn thing since sliced bread.

i got into the honors program at UCSB (just one more reason my rejection makes no sense) and id pick that over SD any day. its just less snobbish and more fun.
