Thanks!

Your statistics look great, but they choose only 9 students a year out of about 160 applications–so that’s about a 5.625% acceptance rate. (They waitlist 4 each year, in case some of the 9 don’t accept).

Their average stats are 3.89 UW, with average SAT CR760 and M740 and W730. The school’s tuition is entirely free for all four years.

Be aware, however, that they expect you to work on a ranch in one of the most desolate parts of California while taking courses. And this work is considered part of the curriculum. So the school is not for everyone. But every year, some students go there–and some love it, and some hate it.

Best of luck to you if that’s where you decide to apply.

Sorry, but unless you have a whole bunch of intellectual ECs here you haven’t shared, no way. The people they take are off the charts intellects that most of us can’t even converse with!!

From the little I know of Deep Springs admissions, personality plays a huge role in admissions, and the rounds of essays can be daunting. You do have a shot. As a much more likely alternate, consider Warren Wilson College, especially since you’re in-state.

Deep Springs is only for two years. I’m not sure they could make it through four years. :p

hey dude.
you’ll get into Deep Springs.

we placed 3rd/4th by the way… hehe…

check out my discussion…

warblersrule86, he mentioned that he is in NC. How can he be in-state?

and you got 790 on math iic too… lol…

Warren Wilson is in/near Asheville, NC.

I’m sorry. I’m curious, why would anyone want to go to Deep Springs? i am not trying to be rude, I just want to know. You go to school in the middle of nowhere with 25 other guys. You work your ass off on a ranch the whole day, and have little time for fun or activities. And the school has three professors. This is dertainly the opposite of the ‘typical college experience’. I understand that many people from here transfer to prestigous Ivies, but if Deep Springs is so competitive to get into, why not apply to the Ivies right of HS?

Just explain why you want to go to Deep Springs.

He’s bicurious and wants to do cowboy work with other men

seriously i agree…no offense, but going to DP sounds like it would suck…so why do you want to go there?

adonalmao-
lollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll pwned

Small=intimate. I guess it’s taking that LAC concept and taking it to the extreme… the super, ultra, mega extreme.

I personally wouldn’t go there because the internet there sucks. That alone would kill me, nevermind the fact that they offer about 9 courses a semester… <shudders> </shudders>

My parents, who were both poor chinese peasents at birth, thought the concept’s idiotic. To them, if you want to work go work on a poor Chinese farm instead, where one bad harvest could mean starvation; this kind of labor is hardly worth the time. But whatever.

You guys think statistics will get you into Deep Springs? Try the burdensome application, which is six essays of 1,500 words each, for a 9,000 WORD APPLICATION. GOOD LUCK, HAHAHAHA!

Deep Springs is a great school and it provides opportunities to experience a new lifestyle for 2 years. The professors and lecturers are good, and the classes offered there meet the General Education requirements at 4-year universities.

It sounds to me as if you are a good candidate for Deep Springs. You have the scores, the leadership, the creativity. Just apply to plenty of other places, since it’s so competitive.

Everyone applying has strong stats, it comes down to truly exceptional ECs and recs. Are you one of the 9 most brilliant high school kids in the Country?

Quote: Are you one of the 9 most brilliant high school kids in the Country?

I think you meant to add, “…country – and wants to spend your Springtimes castrating bulls?”

For the right person, Deep Springs is an amazing opportunity. My son would rather have a tooth pulled without anesthetic.

Wow thanks for all the responses!

Basically I want to come to Deep Springs to become a man.

Adonalmao, no one is funnier than you think you are.

My cousin’s at Deep Springs right now. I’m really close to him and hearing about his application experience, it really isn’t the stats at all that get you in. The essays are what matter, and in the end the students at the school actually decide who will be accepted. I don’t think academic brillance or class rank is what they’re looking for. My cousin had a 1350 on his SAT and was not one of the top few in his class, but is an amazing writer and he really fit in with the personality of the school. You basically just have to find your spark in the essays that will capture their attention.
