Deferrals

I think Affirmative Action is a great topic for College Confidential. Maybe not the Notre Dame forum, but it is a very good topic to discuss on this website.

I’m just sick of shyman’s inconsistencies. That’s all I’m saying.

Haha and no, my first name isn’t Chris.

numbersguy - I agree with everything you said - and good to bring up the big win for us over UCLA - and all of you incoming freshman, as Brian Kelly stated, get in shape over the summer because we will be doing a lot of pushups - GO IRISH

I am not in favor of “affirmative action” simply put that it is reverse discrimantion against other i.e whites. I stil feel that I did not deserve a spot in the Class of 2014 as Icompare my stats to everyone else.

Deferred
SAT: 2280 (800 w, 800 cr, 680 m)
GPA: 4.1 weigted
sent my first marking period grades, which had a gpa of about 4.7
recs: awesome (2 teachers, guidance, employer, ND alum)
essays: people said they were good
EC: tons (3 leadership positions)
hook: NCTE (NATIONAL COUNCIL OF TEACHERS OF ENGLISH) award for outstanding writing; various publised pieces; gave writing samples from lit mags & school newpaper
thoughts: I’m a little confused, but I guess my GPA just wasn’t strong enough. Otherwise, I think my application was strong. I got into BC, Fordham, & Villanova.

kcorr2010 - you look like a fabulous and accomplished writer - hopefully with the increase in GPA you will get accepted - if you have the time over break, maybe write another great essay - you appear to be a great writer, so this may help.

Good Luck!

Schools say to send them any sort of other accomplishments for when they re-evaluate your application in the RD period. What sort of accomplishments are they looking for? More community service hours? Academic awards?

Do you think ND would read another essay?

It is questionable, I would email the counselor, but if it doesn’t greatly improve you application, then it may not be a good idea - I would email your counselor - thinking about it a little more, you might want to ask first … and aeroglisseur, I would say yes, awards, distinctions, new SATs, but do not give community service hours unless it is substantial.

I was deferred but I got into UChicago and Villanova. I’m still waiting on letters from SMU, Tulane and UT in the coming weeks too.

I’m confused by the line about sending additional supplementary material. For example, I am now in training to become a certified nursing assistant (I want to be a premedicine student in addition to my major). Would informing the university of this help my chances at all or would it be considered unnecessary?

I’m also unsure of whether I should take the SAT or ACT again. My scores are 2030 and 31 respectively.

I got deferred because of my ACT score. shakes head

WestHendo2010 - this is something that is unique (I assume), so I would email your counselor with this info - basically, as long as you don’t over email your counselor with new info, then it fine.

Additionally, if you can stomach to take the tests again, I would, your scores can only go up! (or else they don’t count)

SMU letters went out the Dec 17 you should have heard by now either way

hey guys, I posted this in a different EA thread but I wanted to get more responses and the extra long wait is killing me.
I didn’t get my EA letter so I looked up my app and found I put my wrong address. I am usually not like that. So I’m sure my letter made its way from FL back to IN. And I called on the 24, when I realized it wasn’t coming and silly me, Catholic U, no answer until Jan 4.
Since then, my mailman must know my name because I have gotten two letters from the university, a Christmas card and a financial aid application. Did everyone get these letters? Accepted and Rejected or Deferred?
Just trying to piece it together. Thanks : )

I got accepted and got those two letters. They came about a week or so ago. Congrats, I think you probably got in!!

Thanks chrissmith332. I hope so!

I got accepted Early action with 27 ACT 4.1 GPA 3.8 UW

Found this on a Notre Dame class of 2014 facebook page. I have no idea if it’s accurate or not.
